| just got a great deal on a molle pack from ctd. only 49.99. i transfered all of my gear from my alice pack to it and still yhad room left over. any thoughts on molle packs... |
| I don't know. We were issued them for roughly 3 or 4 years. Took 'em on deployment and a bunch of the plastic frames broke in transit and when we had attached them to our gun trucks. We've since received the new ILBE/Sally packs which are internal frame in Wood Digi Marpat and we love 'em... I did however like the molle assault/3day pack... But once again the new one has bested the old... |

0612Devil, Are you a Marine? That couldbe part of the problem. NOT you being a Marine, but the Marines were issued the first generation of the MOLLE system. The one where the ruck clipped to the back of the pistol belt right? The Army has been issuing the MOLLE 2. The frame has been updated a few times since it was first issued. Supposedly it's much stronger than before. I've seen one with a crack, but don't remember how it happened. We weren't using them hard at all though. Probably the guy was just tossing it around, and letting it slam to the ground every time he took it off. The latest assault packs have been getting better. I'm not sure of the difference between thefirst, and the MOLLE 2, but the latest are bigger (almost the right size to fit the Camelback) and have wider, but thinner shoulder straps for more comfort. The newer mag pouches also have an elastic band to help hold mags in when the flap is open. ponyboy506, It depends on what generation of frame you got, and even the second gen has been changed a few times. The pack itself is ok, smaller than a large ALICE, but a bit bigger than a medium. I wis hteh sleeping bag compartment was integral to the main pack so that it would be easier to carry larger loads, though I do like the ability to compress it down when only the patrol sack and bivy cover are inside. |
| I thought about getting that pack, but decided on their smaller ($30) pack since I travel light. 50% of my load is weapons/ammo. So far I'm pretty impressed with the pack. It has fastex buckles on the straps so you can dump it in under 5 seconds. However, I think I'm going to replace the straps (shoulder and waist) with a self contained harness system to help distribute the load a bit better. It doesn't have quite as many webs as CTD's 3DAP, but there's enough for the pouch that holds my shelter stuff, a couple of canteens, and a strap setup on the side to strap on an AK with the stock folded. |

I have a molle 1 setup and its crap, the frame has broken in two spots and its floppy and weak. It sure is fancy and a great idea but not worthy. The ruck with smaller pouches attached works well on the alice frame and I use the sleeping bag carrier still just because it attaches to any pack. Ive also used it for a rope bag and worked well. With body armor and a decent load the patrol pack is ok but Ill stick with my raid, can be real light or go heavy if needed.. I also use mine in a vehicle mounted right in the back filled with medical supplies laptop and some communications stuff. Overall id say... sleep system carrier-good , patrol pack-decent , ruck-ok,better on alice frame , lbv-better by itself , whole system-not good Maybe the molle 2 setup is much better but Im not gonna try it. |
