Springfield Armory.  I got it from a co worker that just retired and it was his Dads gun.    I dont know much about the M1.  here is some pics.  Im  guessing the stock has been reinished because of the glossy finish on it.

I'd knock that shine off, and then use some linseed oil ( several coats), and then finish off with some Tom's 1/3 wax.

That's a nice looking M1.  The receiver is late 1953 mfg.

ive got one ALOT like that, for $600 from a guy walking around a gun show. he said it was his dads, and his father died. "im sorry" i said. he replied "im not"  

anyways. kitchen scrub pad, rubber gloves, denatured alcohol took the shine off of the stock,

a few coats of BLO properly scrubbed in with steel wool ( wipe the excess off after 15-20 minutes with a cloth )

and my rifle looks awesome. i suspect yours will be perfect with my above tips also
