Bought a FAL from a friend. It's an  older CAI build with L1A1 marked Imbel receiver. "L1A1 SPORTER"
Had the most god awful black paint on it and terrible black plastic furniture. It is none the less a tack driver and the pain/plastic furniture is being fixed...
My real problem is the rear sight. It has one peep hole and it seems to be calibrated to 300 meters. He had a scope on it, however I like the looks of the rifle better without the scope and would perfer to shoot it with the open sights
DSA has a number of different rear sights that seem to be the answer, but there are so many different makes of FAL's I just don't know which one to buy.
I know it's a metric rifle. Takes a metric mag and my friend told me the rifle was an_argintine_never shot and  only dropped once_how ever this was a gundealer talking and you know how they are..
My question to the forum is will the short Belgiam style rear sight fit on this rifle?
Thanks
Mike

Dig up rifle markings to confirm the oem mfg. My L1A1 Sporter was an Aussie Lithgow parts build. There are also numbers of dots on some of the front sight posts to tell the height of them.

These CAI rifles can be real mix masters, does the rear sight fold down? If so it's inch, now check your front sight, if it click's as it is turned...it's metric, if it has a set screw way out front its inch. I have used 300m inch folding rear sights with metric front sights with good results, its the tall 600m reart sight/metric combo that runs into problems.

the rear sight folds down and the front sight has a forward set screw. should I order an Inch style rear sight instead?

Inch style would be correct.

I have the same problem with mine. It shoots like 14" high at 50yds.

I know, so does mine. I hope I ordered the correct rear sight from DSA. If not ,then I will  return it. My next option is to go ahead and mount a scope on it.

Well the rear sight came in from DSA and it fits perfectly. Much lower, took off the scope and the mount, put on the oringal dust cover.
Looks much better. Just need to sight it in as soon as the weather improves a little.
Took off the black spray paint that was on it with fine steel wool. Preplaced that awfull cheap plastic furniture with Israli wood. Now just need a wooden handgrip and it will be complete. Might have to make my own, unless some one knows where I might find one.???

The links should work for Gunpartsguy.com. Very reputable vendor. As long as you have an Inch style lower this should work for a Wooden grip.

thanks a million, It's just want I needed to complete the rifle. Also found a canvas sling for it. Once I have the wooded grip installed I will post some pics
