What parts (complete bolt, specific springs, etc...) would an owner of an m21 need to keep the rifle functioning for the life of the owner and perhaps in a combat SHTF situation? Karl |
| Fulton Armory has parts kits available reasonably. The two I'm going to get are the spring kit (obvious source of breakdowns) and the trigger repair kit. For SHTF , you might also consider a complete, headspaced bolt. Sure, yoou can replace parts, but in tough times, it might be better just to have a drop-in bolt. I'd also get a few firing pins. To round it out, maybe another gas piston and an operating rod. And, try the stuff out before SHTF. |
| All of the above recommendations are excellent. In 20 years of shooting an M-14 or M-1A in competition and practices, the parts that broke were: extractor (about 4), firing pin (2), hammer hook (1), bolt latch roll pin (1), flash suppressor cracked between prongs at front (1), rear sight cover cracked at corner of hole (3), stock cracked from selector cut-out (2), barrels shot out (several), and the weirdest was the right lug on the front of the bolt snapped off from the extractor cut-out. All parts were U.S.G.I. |
