A few months ago, I had my L1A1's barrel cut down to 17.25 inches and theaded to accept a phantom flash hider. After the first range trip, the flash hider began coming lose after about 25 rounds. Placed red loctite and allowed to dry after torquing. Second trip, at a training session, 20 rounds into the class, flash hider flew downrange. Recovered the flash hider, treads on the barrel looked ok, was able to re-thread the flash hider. Any suggestions: more loctite, more torque, peel or crush washer? If peel or crush washer, where do I get one?  Tried a crush washer from midway usa for ar10s, but inner diameter was too large and just slid over ther barrel.  Phantom flash hider from DS arms and gunsmithing from Entreprise Arms. TIA

Heat kills loctite.  You need Rockset.

I'm looking into my 1st can and during my research your topic came up. IIRC they say you aren't supposed to use any washer at all. FWIW.

How tight are you putting it on?

Also I would mic the threads and make sure they are not undersized.
You laugh but I've seen this before.

Did you have it threaded 1/2x28 or 9/16?  RH or LH thread?

RH threads?

I spoke to the tech. guy at yankee hill and he said that model flash hider does not need a washer, but suggested to give it a try. So I did with a dab of rocksett. Waiting to get to the range now. report to follow.

As tight as I can with a wrench...don't have the torque specs.

Didn't get to do that...keeping my fingers crossed the rockett and crush washer will do the trick.

That would be F-14 Tomcat. Phantom never crashed on the first flight. TC made a big fireball and smoking hole.
