Hey i have an 870 that i bought a few months ago. It came with the factory 2 shot ext, but i replace it with a scattergun 2 shot ext and spring. I use it as my patrol shotgun at work. Today i took it to the range. it seems like maybe the mag spring is not strong enough, or the follower is getting stuck in the tube. It was not pushing the shells through the tube very well and the follower even got stuck in the tube after the last round was cycled. the follower is the one that came with the gun. I tried one of the solid orange followers in it and it did the same thing. The gun has been loaded for the last few months and has been fired at least once a month. I thought i read here that it was ok to leave it loaded. Should i buy a different mag spring. i checked the inside of the mag tube it was clean, the whole gun was cleaned a few days before. Thanks in advance.

Is it an Express model that had the dimples in the magazine tube?  Maybe the dimples weren't removed properly and that is causing the hang-up.
You might also want to re-check the cleanliness inside the mag tube.  All of my followers fall or slide freely in the mag tube.  A weak spring can cause malfunctions but the follower itself shouldn't get stuck in the tube with even the weakest spring.

Your follower is definately binding on something. also check the tube for dents, since it is moved alot I assume you might have knocked a dent into it.

Are you using the original spring?

thanks for the replys. i bought the gun new and it came with the rem 2 shot ext. their were no dimples in the mag tube. it does not look like it is dented but i will check again. both the factory follower and the orange one will not go down the tube with out some help. they seem to have trouble the intire lenght of the tube. thanks for the help.

another suggestion, make sure the tube is straight, not warped or bent, if that fails, use something to sand the follower down slightly, fit it and keep going until everything rides smooth, that's what i'd do.

Did it work with the factory tube? Put the stock mag extension tube back on and see if it still binds.

I had this problem when I switched over to a Choate tube.

Problem was with the aftermarket tube.
1st problem was with the follower hanging. What was happening was that the tube when threaded onto the mag tube still had about  a 1/16 gap. So it allowed the edge of the follower to hang up on the metal lip in the void.

I would check yours.

Also with tube the way it was welded togather left quite a bit of slagg behind in the tube. After about 45min with assorted files I was able to clean it up and keep it running smooth.

You may want to just change to one of the bright high viz followers. These big plastic followers tend to have large round edges that wont get caught up in gaps.

Good luck. I would get with the manufacturer and I am confident they will take care of you.

Get an account on Remington Armory.com. It's a Remington website. They had a bulliten about removing and installing their mag extensions. I can't recall exactly how it went, but there are specific directions for their installation to prevent a similar problem.

I can't remember the name of the part but it is the part that attaches the barrel and mag extension tube together and gives it support.  Make sure that is not too tight.  If it is that could be causing the problem.

If you have the Scattergun Tech tube and spring it should have also come with a follower.

1. Field strip the shotgun and clean the tube. DO NOT LUBE the magazine tube.
2. drop the follower in, it should slide all the way to the receiver. If is dosent and no protrusions or fouling is present in the tube you can sand down the follower a little.

I replaced my factory Remington 2-shot extension on my Wingmaster after I was having last round loading issues. The Scattergun Tech tube solved it.
