Are the pvs 7B/D interchangeable with a pvs 7c? I am thinking about going with a different body style but don't know if front lens and tube can be used with the change? Any help would be appreciated

I don't have hands on with the A/C models but have been lead to believe they are not compatible (tube probably yes, lenses probably no).

Beyond that, you will pay a lot out of pocket for a PVS7B/D style housing. If you're already willing to spend $800-1000 on the new housing, take that $800 and add it with the $1200ish your goggles are worth, and step up to a used monocular system like a pvs14 or one of the ABnightvision housings that accept mx10160 tubes.

the front lens will not fit but the tube should - i am running a 10130d tube in some pvs7a goggs now - i had a pvs7d but let it go - i like the 7a and dont think i would go back to the b/d , allthough the b/d  are real good - i just like the 7a/c a little better

The PVS-7A/C housing will accept a 7 B/D tube as the B/D tube was designed to fit both housings. The A/C tube will not fit the B/D housing this is due to electrical contacts only.
I have both types here and the PVS-7A is running a 7B tube.

What exactly is the difference in A/C to B/D other than the obvious visual ones.

The B/D is basically just the later model and has been simplified for production. There has been alot more work go into the manufacture of the A/C unit than the B/D unit.
I personally prefer my 7B unit over the 7A but thats just personal preferance.

The reason for asking as I cannot find a head mount and only can find helmet mounts due to the dovetail mount and not the bayo stab mount. It is a great set of bi oculars with a gen III tube.

Norotos or Wilcox makes a dovetail to bayo stab adapter.  So you can use a PVS-7B with a PVS-7A mount.

I know I am trying to go the other way a to b mount

Some tubes only fit A/C, Others only fit B/D and more recent ones fit A/C and B/D shells.

About the only thing completely interchangeable between the two are the batteries, and even then, not always...

If you are looking for a head mount for the PVS-7A/C, keep an eye out for the old Litton head mount.  They actually work pretty well, although they are not the easiest things to find.  There are also 2 models, a flip up and a fixed one, you definitely want the flip up if you have a choice.  The one shown below if the fixed version (with an adapter shown mounted in it).  You have to either remove the NV unit or take off the entire thing, if you want to remove the NVD from your eyes.  Both of which aren't good things when using a bi-ocular unit as you may have to do it frequently.  It would be less of an issue with a monocular, but it can still be a problem.

I used one of those Litton crushers with a PVS14  for a while. Its remarkably stable even without the chin/nape strap in place, but the eye relief wasn't right for me unless adjusted ALL the way out.

It's much more comfortable than the USGI skullcrusher.  If mine was a flip up, I would have kept it.  But the fixed position and a PVS-7 don't work well together.  So I sold it and got an OpsCore helmet.

I didn't really appreciate the nickname "Skull Crusher" till I put it on, damn, its like the government wanted to make you pay in pain for the enhancement of being able to see in the night, I even heated mine to bend the sides out, and it was still horrible.

It even made my old PASGT helmet with the older liner even feel good, compared to it.

The Litton one is interesting, but, I am sticking with one of my two helmets.

The PVS-7 A/C or B/D can be complicated. If you are dealing with recent tubes they pretty much fit all. Older tubes can be complicated due to the battery contact design on the tube. In the early days Litton had their design and ITT had another. They both had proprietary tubes until the Gov stepped in and said enough is enough. The ITT design eventually won out. Both are good scopes though the ITT version is easier to work on and parts are more available. The older tubes are the same size but have different contact designs which is why some old tubes won't work.

The older tubes are getting rare so it is less of a concern today.
