| I have been reloading for a while I have never crimped pistol rounds, I am going to start reloading 45acp rounds should I get the 3pc or 4pc set. I have a lee progressive press and I have been doing 9mm. and I have noticed the 4pc set is out of stock everywhere and the 3 pc is in stock everywhere. What do you think? |

I load 5 different pistol rounds on a Lee progressive and seat and crimp in the same step for all of them. It can be done if you take the time to set up your dies right.
I crimp everything, light/medium for auto rnds, medium for revolver. Crimping helps reduce bullet set back / pull out issues and holds the bullet just a bit longer for complete powder ignition. Get a case gauge to check every rnd in. If you are careful with die set up you can use the 3 dies. I would get the 3 die set since it's available now, if you feel the need for the 4th you can still get it later. |

How have you been reloading 9mm and NOT crimping? What do you remove the mouth flair with? I seat and crimp in one operation but I load on a single stage press. If you can't find a 4 die set you have 2 options. 1) Seat and crimp in one op. 2) Buy the Lee FCD (factory crimp die) separate. If you are going to be loading cast bullets though I would not use the FCD. You could probably buy a extra seat/crimp die and set it up to crimp only too. |
