Hello all,
ok just got my hornady lock n load AP and this will be my first time loading. had a question about load data. I was checking hodgdon's load data table for 230 gr .451, and it only shows data for FP. Can I use the same data for RN? or would it be different? Ive tried looking at some other tables but havent found anything that says its for RN. I thought RN would be more common? I also bout the 49th addition of Lymans, but they only show 230gr TMJ, and i want to use FMJ. Can i safely use their data? Any help or tips is greatly appreciated. Thanks! -wM |

what matters is bullet weight, and material.
for example, 230gr lead is the same whether it is RN or flat point. 230gr jacketed is different than 230gr lead. plated bullets should use lead loading data. the overall limiting factor is pressure, so if you are not loading maximum loads, you should be fine. BTW my faves are 230gr LRN or Berry's plated over 4.5 gr bullseye (COL 1.24") ; and 200gr LSWC over 5gr bullseye. have fun! |

hodgdon has FMJ data on their website, hodgdon data
TMJ and FMJ data will work for jacketed bullets. |

Thanks for clearing that up guys. I was assuming that was the case, but didn't want to really assume anything before starting heh.
And pepe, i saw the FMJ listed on hodgdon, but they were listed as FP, so i didn't know if it would matter with me wanting to load RN. but got it now. thanks for help! -wM |

For 230 grain 45acp use SAAMI height or better yet Winchester white box 230 grain which is 1.260. Different bullets seat at different heights. If you go to gateway threads. 2nd page. You will see a thread I did titled, why loading 45acp is different than 9mm. There's a lot of information with pictures regarding 45acp bullet height. If loading 451 jacketed you won't need an FCD as you will see a lot of discussion about fcd & lead 452. However I think it wise to have one on hand. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |
