What can be used for a replacement for lead bullets?  Or is lead the easiest and cheapest way to go?
Shooting 9mm and some 45 acp.

Lead is the easiest and the cheapest.  If another material fit the bill, it would be the standard.

Why are you looking to replace lead?

Bismuth has similar properties to lead, but it is more expensive.

What we do now is powder coat our cast bullets.

This coating lets you fire these at jacketed bullet velocities without any leading.

Also no lube smoke like a lubed bullet, and safe to use in a Glock or suppressor.

Easy to do at home with less than $100 investment.

You can buy something similar. But this isn't the thread to ask where to buy, you want the tacked thread for that.

Top of the page, "Where to find" thread, that's where to ask.

Bayou Bullets or Missouri Bullets are my go to source for lead SWC's. My next mass purchase will be THEIR coated (not plated) lead bullets.

Lots of good companies are selling quality lead, plated lead and coated lead bullets at reasonable prices. I prefer to use jacketed bullets in .40 S&W, 9mm and .45acp defense loads. I tend to buy lead bullets for revolvers and .45acp target loads.

I must have been thinking of plated bullets.
I was looking for something cheap like lead but no smoke and shoot in glock and hk.
I will look at these.
thanks again guys

HiTek coated...  No smoke, will shoot from poly rifling, price is right.

Casting and coating your own is an option, but its an investment to be sure, both time and money.

I've used thebluebullets.com and king's shooter supply pc bullets with no issues in glock, Sig, and HK pistols and MP5's.

Coated bullets are the best invention evah.

The prices do look pretty good.
I think I will just buy them coated.
thanks guys

I have not had good luck with Hi Tek coated bullets in my Witness 10mm, Steyr GB, or my USP 45, all of which have polygonal bores. They all leaded up a storm.

Coated bullets are all I use in everything else and in those guns they do fine.
