I have a rem 700 that i bought used...can any one tell me how to tell if its a long action or a short action...how can i tell... ?

Short action (SA)
Edit - see below - probably SA as most are .223/.308 - more popular calibers.

Usually it goes by the caliber. 308 and under will fit into a short action, 30-06 rounds and larger need the long action.

I guess it would be a long action then... the caliber is 270 win ... with out pics can anyone tell me the approx value of said rifle... its in very nice shape...very little wear on the bluing, im guessing its an older model as all it has is a flat steel plate for the butt plate.

sorry if my question is deemed stupid but i dont know much when it comes to rifles/ hunting rifles so i didn't know how you classify long or short action.

It'll have the caliber it's chambered for on the barrel.

We'll know if it's SA or LA by the caliber. (With some obscure exceptions of course, but we won't have to worry about that here)

270 is defiantly long action.

It sounds like an ADL model.

Good all around rifle if you hunt.

Maybe in the $300 range, unless is a special edition.

Measure between the screw holes on the bottom of the rifle.

Long action is 7 3/8"....short action is 6 1/2".

what would a special edition be ? nicer then average stock or something more then that ?

more than that, something out of the ordinary. like a medallion in the stock, special engravings etc.
