I tried rit dye for the first time tonight on a stock. It was a gray mission first tactical stock, and it's now a nice deep midnight / light navy blue color. Actually a pretty nice color, but it won't match the rest of my black stuff... lol
I used the liquid dye. Heated water in a pot and mixed the dye in one of those aluminum serving trays. I put the stock in several times, and it basically just stopped taking color. I heated the water up each time, starting off around 130 deg and ending up close to 200.

Do you guys that have done this more have any advice? I put the entire bottle in (and it wasn't a small bottle). Do you think the water just wasn't hot enough starting off?

Thanks in advance!

Whenever I dye plastic, I use 3 black and 1 dark green.  It's suposed to keep the purple tint away.
