Hi I was wondering if anyone had any ideas suggestions or experience moving a approx 400 lbs safe up a flight if stairs

If it's just a normal flight of stairs then that shouldn't be too bad with a few friends and a hand-truck rated for that amount. Just really strap it down to the truck tightly. You can rent the really nice hand trucks used for moving fridges and other appliances from most rental places for a few bucks.

Get a dolly.  One guy pulls it the other pushes.  The more the merryer.  By the way as with pianos when you move a safe you find out who your real friends are

Also take a look at the safe and see if the door comes off, on most models with external hinges, you can just lift the door off.  That should save you 100 lbs or so, but as other have said, 400 lbs up the stairs with a dolly and a couple people isn't too difficult.

Get the refer dolly with the belt roller on it. Those will make the stairs a bit easier. Also, look for the drop down wheel models as this is easier to roll on flat surfaces and take some of the work out it.
