found some .30-06 shell casings at the old fort cody ( deming, nm) site.

fort cody was a training camp for various national guard units prior to being shipped out to europe for WW1.

anyway, the shells I found had RA stamped at the top of the case head and the number 18 at the bottom.

the shells look very old and are blackened with age.

any ideas who made this ammo?

makes sense.

probably fired through some enfields or springfields in use at that time.

there's an old rifle range close by.

still has the pulleys and frames for raising and lowering targets in the butts.

very cool, very remote, as in waaay out in the desert.
