The sling mount that is attached to the tube extension is best. The add on sling plate takes up threads that are needed for the mag tube coupling so having the plate mounted to the coupling instead of bettween the coupling and the barrel ring is a big plus. On the mounted one the plate is mounted to the tube forward of the coupling which is also a plus.
So no contest here, the mounted plate wins. |

No. All Wilson Combat tube extensions have the plate mounted in that spot except for the Universal one which have no plate. You have an 8 pound shotgun hanging from your shoulder and that just ain't no big deal. The issue is not which one is stronger, the issue is the Remington Mag tube is 11.5" long and there is only enough thread for the mag tube coupling or mag cap so the after market plate you add on takes up some of those threads and that is not good. I have added the plate to custom weapons when the client wanted it will the Remington Tube Extension and then have that tube go down range on the guy. I have been getting receivers in with 11 3/8" long mag tubes and there is no room for the after market plates. Then I have got them in that were 11 11/16 and you could not even get the mag cap to tighten down on the barrel ring without taking some off the mag tube so when I get one of those, I add the plate with the Remington Tube Extension and it works perfectly.
The Wilson tube extension is the best value out there for a two shot Remington tube. They are only $45 and have a great spring and a true combat follower. There is absolutly no issue with the tube extension baring the wieght of a shotgun. |
