So a forum member did me a solid and sent me some .308 range brass that he wasn't going to use Theres 50 pieces here, and im trying to get some info on whats here. Help me figure out these headstamps, and if they are worth loading up

10 pieces of Hornady Match brass
17 pieces marked F C .308 win
20 pieces marked R P 308 win

These will be for my first loads for my .308 bolt gun, loading Speer 168 gr match bullets or 178 gr Hornady Amax, CCI primers and Varget. Will this brass work well, or should I wait and shoot some of the FGM rounds that I have and use that brass?

Your FGM (Federal Gold Medal?) will also be marked FC. The Hornady is garbage, send it to me for proper disposal.

I'd be happy to add it to my collection of Hornady Match brass...  Err, dispose of it for you.

Hornady and the RP are good quality.

For me the primer pockets on FC brass expand in one or two reloads, making them into scrap.

This is with load 1 grain below listed max.

I haven't loaded FC rifle brass in years. Maybe they have improved their cases, I hope so.

It's this also the case with lake city?

Good question. I have 20 or so pieces of LC brass also from awhile back.

LC 308 (7.62x51) is heavier brass than comm cases. Reduce charge, usually 2 grains over comm cases.

Remove the primer crimp, it's high quality brass.

Cool.  I have the RCBS primer swager that's worked pretty well so far.  I'll switch out the pilot and give it a go on the LC I have.
