Depending on what you're wanting to spend there are dozens of original Trapdoors on gunbroker for under 1k.  Alot in the 5-800$ range.

Dixie Gunworks probably has as good a price as any.  The MSRP on Uberti's web site will be much higher than the street prices at most sellers.  Check Buffalo Arms, too.

Here's a Pedersoli:  http://www.dixiegunworks.com/product_info.php?cPath=22_92_184&products_id=2519&osCsid=f0b2e553faa04f589e0a1981ae6e87ad

Trapdoors, rolling blocks, Sharps, and highwalls, a lot of beautiful, elegant rifles there. How does one decide?

Exactly.  Not to mention Ballards, my favorite, or a real nice Stevens 44 or 44 1/2.  We shoot a "vintage benchrest" game here and one of our guys is shooting an original .22 RF Walnut Hill; what a great gun, and his shoots like a modern rifle.  He won the 200 yard match at a big Scheutzen match last summer where he was shooting the ammo the gun prefers.  Since the ammo we shoot in the benchrest game is limited, his gun doesn't shoot at its peak, but he is in the running for the top three places every match anyway.  (Experience ain't his handicap, either!)

I have a .22RF No. 44 that I go back and forth with myself about selling.

I have even warmed up to Rolling Blocks a little, especially the small actions.

While we'[re on the subject of single shots, here's a shout out for the Winchester 1885.

Call these guys to find out if they have an original trapdoor you might want - http://www.trailcreektrade.com/gunlist.html.

I went by tonight and they have several old trapdoors out on display, ranging from a parts gun to pretty okay.  There's a custom gun built with an original action a Green Mountain barrel and chambered for .40-65 looks to be a fair gun that handles great.  But, the stock was broken into through the lock in a car accident and has been repaired.
