in my search to buy a fal , I keep coming back to the stg58's, they really appeal to me.
I know its an open ended question , but some idea of what price range a stg58 in good shootable condition (not a collectors gun) would go for? and also what to avoid. thanks! ck |
| That's a hard question to answer. A while back, maybe 10 years ago, DSA sold rifles with matching steyr parts on their milled receivers, they are probably the most desirable. As the parts dried up, the rifles were built on non matching steyr parts and then as the parts dried up more, a lot of the parts became US made. I paid $1200 for a matching parts DSA about 8 or 9 years ago. When you get into the stgs that have Cast receivers or what parts, you get a big scramble of opinions. |

Go to falfiles.com and read for about a month. The guys that write the books go there to ask for info. I'm writing the new FAL book. FAL Files is great if you know what you're looking for otherwise it can be very confusing. The StG58 is a great choice. The most important part is the receiver- DSA, Coonan, IMBEL are all OK. Stay away from Century. The only source of StG58s is DSA and home built. DSA good. Home built unknown. On FAL FILES we know who knows how to build; but there are a lot of "experts" even "gunsmiths" who screw up FALs including StG58s. So you can buy a DSA. Or you can spend a lot of time reading about guns built from kits so you might spot problems and at least know what to ask. |
One just sold on Falfiles was on here also for 1400 with 6 mags a rail and bipod. I am wanting to see what mine is capable of so here is my current set up. STG-58 1963 all matching kit on a DC Industries receiver. ![]() The barrel was shortened but was a decent buy from what i have seen lately.
