I was wondering if there are any quiet subsonic .223 loads that you could shoot in the backyard.  I guess a subsonic .22 LR would be the only choice, but just wondering if there was any .223 rounds out there, or if they could be handloaded.  I'm sure they wouldn't operate the action, and could only be used as single shot.  I'd just like to have something quiet to shoot out the back door, without a silencer.

doubtful that anything that isnt suppressed is going to be "quiet"

plus, once you download a 223, you essentially have a 22lr (with a slightly bigger bullet)

if your state allows it, get a suppressor and a 22lr if you want quiet...

My buddy loaded up some some 52grain hornady's with like 19 grains of extruded powder - pretty quiet for 223 and still cycled well.

Without using a suppressor, you will still have the muzzle blast; sub-sonic ammo only eliminates the ballistic crack.  EBR manufactures sub-sonic .223 ammunition, but I don't see much use in it.  You could use a suppressed .22 with some of the 60grn SSS rounds and get better performance than the .223 sub-sonic rounds
