I have a friend who bought a .45 TiRant.
He shoots the suppressor on everything from .22 LR, 9mm, and .45 acp. When he uses his sig p220 .45 as the host, the gun is almost unusable. The gun throws burning powder and dirt back in the shooter's face. After 2 or 3 magazines, the shooter's cheek is black with many little burn marks. 3 magazines is about all I can stand due to the discomfort of burning powder hitting my face. My friend has experimented with different bullet weights, recoil springs, and powder burn rates. Nothing seems to help. Is this normal for suppressed .45 pistol?, or is something wrong with the Sig? Is there any way to fix this problem? Thanks for your help. |

What type of booster is he using?
My first suspicion is a worn out recoil spring or the spring needs tuning to slow down the slide unlocking. He needs to have his booster checked out. As just an outlying guess, the first chamber of the suppressor might need cleaning too. If its restricting flow due to low volume, it might cause excessive blowback. I'm just throwing it out there since he uses it on .22. Especially if .22 fouling is in the booster. |

I have already learned something from you guys.
I always assumed the shit hitting me in the face was coming out the ejection port. When I think about it, it seems unlikely, because the port faces to the right. If the booster is not working right, I guess that gas could blow around the seal in the booster and straight back into the shooter's face? |

I shoot my P220 with my Osprey .45 and have never had hot gasses or powder hitting me in the face, as you describe.
Not having any personal experience with a Ti-Rant, I can't say for certain, but it most definitely sounds like the booster/Nielsson device is throwing the gas. If it's not coming from there the only real alternative would be the chamber area unlocking prematurely and spraying you, as mentioned before. How much .22 have you run through the can and when & how was it last dismantled and cleaned (if ever)? That's assuming that your Ti-Rant is the newer, user servicable model. If it's the older model, is it still sealed or has it heen jailbroken? Have you examined the booster spring to see that it can still move freely? Have you examined the booster body to see if it has any cracks in it? Something is seriously not right here, and were it me, I'd be on the phone with AAC right quick and in a hurry to get this figured out. I understand their customer service is quite good and always seems willing to help. |

I have experienced the same thing with my G17 and Trident suppressor. I was using a relatively slow burning 9mm powder with 115gr bullets and had worked up a midrange load that worked fine in multiple guns. However, the first time I used it with a suppressor, the blowback was very noticeable with unburnt powder hitting me in the face and completely covering my RMR in soot in one mag. I fixed the problem by changing powder.
What powder and bullet is he using? Has he tried factory loads? If you are in eastern NC, he would be welcome to try out my Tirant 45 which has worked great on multiple hosts. |

Dusten,
I'll ask him what powder/bullet combo's he has tried. I know that he tried to use faster powder to see if it would help, it did not. I think he probably loads with 230gr bullets. He lives near Hillsborough. It might provide useful information to shoot a different TiRant on the same pistol. |
