| I don't know about you guys, but I think an AR-15 with a triangle handguard looks a whole lot more bad-ass than one with the round grips. Now my guestion to you guys is does any one know were I can get one. I've found one place called "Northridge inc." that sells what they call an "early M-16 handguard, buttstock and pistol grip" for around $20. Am I safe to assume that is from an M-16A1, not and even early version of the rifle. Also will the triangle handguad fit on my standard 20" bushy or do I have to get a differen handguard cap or make other altercations to it. thanks guys. |

Make sure you get a complete stock set. The stock for the A1 is shorter than the A2 and looks correct with the triangle guard. It will fits OK but you make have to enlarge the guide hole. It is easy to do. If I remember the A2 guide is round and the A1 stock has a slightly smaller square hole. Just use a file and it will fit flush. You can usually find them at a gun show for less than $10. |

I removed my Triangular Handgaurds and Installed Round Ones. I dislike the Triangular ones as my hand won't wrap around them like it does the Round handgaurds. My favorite Rifle would be an M16 with: A1 or M4 Barrel A2 Handgaurds A2 or Collapsing Stock A2 Sights A1 or Tapco 4-Position Fire Control Parts |
| It all has to do with Generations. The older folks associate the A1 Handgaurds with the M16. The younger ones of us tend to associate the A2 Handgaurds with the M16. So, to Gen. X an A1 Handgaurd looks a bastardization. I had A1s on my toy M16s, but they still didn't look right to me. |
| I've seen the mod he's refering to in pictures but I can't remember where(in books and on the net somewhere). It's a Vietnam era shorty with triangular handguards. I'm aware that all(most)of them had round handguards but there were examples with triangular handguards, at least in pictures. |
| I purchased a set from Hay River Trading and had them do the installation on a pencil barrel CAR. Their product and service is first class and the hg's look very cool. Sorry, I can't find the contact info so if someone out there has it please post, I want more of them. |

I had posted a week or so ago the same topic, you can go to the industry forum and look under DPMS, I asked Jared about the fit, no problem. You can also get them at fultonarmory.com, new COLT for $40.00. My current project is to "retro" a new DPMS DCM. Modern accuracy and "old school" appearance. He said that the triangular handguard will even work with the float tube. I also asked about the cage style brake, they are working on getting one approved that is more similar to the GI, but post ban compliant. Can't wait until finished, I will post pics. |

Sportsman Guide has stock sets that include the triangle hand gards for I think under $20. They are slightly used but definitly servicable. I bought a set to get the A1 shoulder stock for my son to start High Power Service Rifle with. He will use the round hand guards though. Much better grip for use with sling. |

I love the triangle handguards. My dad was in vietnam, so I became a big vietnam buff, so I always thought they looked cool. Right now I am making a hybrid AR15: RRA Lower and parts RRA A2 Buttstock Hogue Grip RRA A2 Upper and parts Colt A1 20" Chrome Lined Light Barrel w/ front sight A1 Triangle Handguards It's going to look sweet! |
