I trim all mine to 1.740 and use a X-die to keep them close to that.
You may lose a bit of tension, but I have not noticed any issues personally.

I re-trim any that hit 1.750. Using the X-die I am seeing about 3% that need re-trimmed after each firing/sizing.

What trimmer do you have? I have the Hornady cam-lock, was not paying the $20 or so for the official power adapter - removed the crank handle and screwed on a nut, socket and adapter connected to my drill  made it powered for a couple of dollars.

I use an RCBS Trim Pro 2 with 3 way cutter. If you don't have a 3 way cutter in your life, you are sucking. Seriously, its a life altering piece of kit. WD40 on the spindle and cam locker release thing so everything runs smooth. Wear a glove on your trimming hand too.

Add a piece of magnet under the trimmer to hold allen wrenches and extra pilots while you're at it.

I trimmed 2000 cases last weekend, way faster than any other method I've used.

My cases are usually trimmed to about 1.755 or a few thousandths above. Most chamber lengths will be far beyond this (1.780 or so). The trim-to length specified in manuals are simply to keep you from having your case neck mouth go beyond the chamber (extend beyond 1.780, in most instances). Therefore, it would do no harm to me to have my cases above 1.760… however, I try to trim all cases to the same length in a given batch… just for consistency and because I sometimes lathe the case necks. This usually is at 1.755-1.758 for brass that have been once fired by me, or 1.740 or 1.750 for cases that other people have manipulated.

I gotta try this...thanks for posting this set up.  I checked it out on youtube and I think may be getting rid of my case prep station lol

Looks so much faster than what I'm doing.

I set my trimmer to 1.758. Short cases will probably crack befor they reach that length. I'm more concerned wht too long than too short since the short stuff would be factory rounds I've fired.
