For suppressor and AOW, no .20s are required to move them. For SBR/SBS you can take them with you if you can configure them as non-NFA (slap a >16" upper on an AR SBS, for instance).

For MGs or SBR/SBS/DD you cannot conveniently temporarily reconfigure, you'll have to store those NFA items in your current state, in a locked container only you (or members of your trust, if applicable) can access. You can come back and get them later, after the .20s are approved.

Get a cheap storage unit in the meantime?

It's possible you could get them back. You're allowed to mail, email, or fax them in. Include a cover sheet with an explanation of the urgency. Possible they'll email/fax you a copy of the approved form without you waiting on the original. (You'll also want to ask them to mail the originals to the new address)

Leaving them locked at a friend/relativems house is an option. Not sure if you're just moving one state away, or somewhere it would be a huge hassle to retrieve them.

You could leave all the short uppers with somebody you trust, boxed up ready to ship. Take the lowers with you (assuming firearm design allows for that).

I was thinking of traveling with the uppers in a separate vehicle and then take them to a buddies house once I get there.
