sorry i can"t find this anywhere.  i see that you can order short barreled uppers.  my question is won't those need to be registered thru nfa as an sbr?  if you purchase the upper and put it on a lower you already have.  thanks for the info in advance

The upper is just a part. The lower is the firearm. So you will have to register your lower as a SBR

The upper is just a part. The lower is the firearm. So you will have to register your lower as a SBR

You want to register your lower before buying the short-barreled upper to avoid "constructive possession" issues.

And the "maker" (individual, trust, LLC, et cetera) needs to engrave his / her / its name, city and state on the receiver before "making" the firearm (assembling the lower and short-barreled upper).

you need to register the lower before putting the upper on it.  if you have a pistol lower you can allways use it on that untill you have a sbr lower.
