I found a used, in very good condition M1a at a local shop for $1299.  Springfield, sn 159XXX, i beleive it is a standard model,  Stock is in great shape, no marks.  It  does have a scope mount and sling included.

Would this be an alright buy? also what year would it be, and is there online serial number guides available for referenct?

thanks

I would have bought it. I am looking for a pre-ban M1A and couldn't find a single one for sale at the last gun show I went to.

Depends on your criteria.

I dont think 1200 is out of line for any M1A, but I think if you are patient and shop it out, you can find a lot more rifle than a standard for the same money.

I would not necessarily count scope mount and sling, as neither may be what you want to use, and may not even be worth enough to do anything with.

Example: $1100 "Loaded".

I cant believe that one isnt at least SPF.

And if you send [email protected] an email, she will respond with an email telling you the model number, born on date and components.

And dont forget about this.

Figure that some of those parts aren't USGI into the equation (if that bothers you).  You might be able to get one off of an ex-highpower shooter who could give you alot more in the bargin? Maybe, it could happen.

Thanks guys

Ive been thiking about it hard lately.  Definately have always wanted one, and i doubt theyll be getting much cheaper in the future.  The biggest reason i havent done it yet though is ammo price/availabilty.  Might hold out a little longer and save more funds.  LIkely before next election though.

thanks

Personally, I would check out the components and see if any USGI parts on it and then reevaluate it based on that info.

My 153xxx & 156xxx were both born in 2003, so I would say late 2003. Both of these rifles had some USGI components, the standard had an HR barrel and the scout of course had an SAInc barrel.

And yes there is a database put together by Different and using members input.

Based on that database yours is appox. 10/2003 which lists a lower and a higher s/n also.
