So I am in need of an IR laser.  At the moment it will be going on an m1a EBR, but will go on a sig 556 once I pick one of those up.

I have been looking at the steiner dbal i2.  It just seems like a whole heck of a lot of money for a system that doesn't come with a IR illuminator.  And the visible laser really does nothing for me.  I know they have some higher end models that have IR illums built in but they are in the 1200-1300 range which just seems like too much to spend on something I might use a couple times a year.

I have also looked at the streamlight TLR-2 IR/IRW.  Which is just a IR laser and IR light.  And it is about half the price of the dbal.  But I'm not sure if the build quality is the same.  It is also a lot less weight than having a dbal i2 and IR light, especially since it will be on an EBR at first which is already heavy.

So what is your opinion, spend the money on the dbal and get an ir light, or get the streamlight, or is there another option i dont know about?

You could get an OTAL and a surefire vampire or an Inforce WML.

The new DBAL-I2 Single Spectrum is an IR laser with an IR illuminator.

I've had the TLR 2 IR eye safe (IR laser/IR illuminator.) mounted on a 16" un-supressed AR for about a month ( and 250 ish rounds).

It seems to be doing well.  The IR illuminator is very bright, and the laser is indistinguishable from my friends APTIAL-C

The TLR 2 IRW is the one with the white light BTW

Thanks for the great info. I didn't know they made a dbal with the illuminator so I think I'll go with that option.
