I really need help on deciding which gun to get for home defence/pickup gun. I have narrowed it down to Mossberg 590A1, Remington 870, or Marlin 44mag model 1984P.  I know if I buy eather of the two shotguns I will send the barrel off to Vang Comp, and I was just wondering if it is really worth the money for the vang comp system.

Which one would you choose of the 3?

THANKS

Go with one of the shotguns.

Tons of aftermarket stuff for 870's but
the 590 is nice out of the box.

It may cost you more in the long run but go with the Rem. As a gunsmith friend once told me:if I had to make a living working on 870's I would have starved to death years ago, they seldom ever break!

Go with the Remington 870.  Simply the best pump shotgun for the money.  I perfer no comp.

I tried the 870 & 590, sold the 870 to my cousin & outfitted the 590 w/ a Hogue compstock; shooting 000 buck is a joy!

You'd be better of buying a complete Vang Comped M590A1.  It will be cheaper than having it converted later.
