| okay I'm totally confused now ,can you cast guys help I want to start casting 45,9mm I see Lyman #2 . ww lead ,and range reclaimed lead .Pros and cons |

range lead will give you inconsistent alloys.
wheel weights are a boolit casters wet dream. it is basically the ideal mixture of tin, antimony and arsenic... and of course lead. i would only buy range recycled lead if it was free or dirt cheap. and then i would only cast it into shotgun slugs and buckshot. |

With range scrap every bucket is different, but...
I've been using range scrap collected over a period of 8 to 10 years from a couple of different indoor ranges. It runs between 12 and 14 BHN air cooled and water drops 18 - 22. This from a dozen samples pulled from buckets all across the time line. So range scrap isn't even close to pure lead in my experience. I'll also say the stuff I've been getting casts beautifully just as is with no additions at all. |
