The M14 was officially adopted in 1957. The Korean War ended with a cease fire agreement in 1953. The M1 Garand was still standard issue for the US Armed Forces during the Korean War. As far as the civilian copies ,aka M1A, I believe those came out about 1971. Member Different has all the information you could ever need regarding commercial M14 copies. I'm sure he'll be along in awhile to give you all the details. I really need to just buy his book. |
| See the online book M14 Rifle History and Development at www.imageseek.com/m1a The M1A born on database is Appendix A in that volume. |

They also were testing the M14 for competition in 1962 to see if it was able to improve on the M1 NM. It cam into being shortly after. I have an old photo from the army with a general and my father with the news information speaking about the rifle being tested for use coming up. It has the general firing a test NM M14. |
