I'm just getting into 3 gun. I'll shoot my first match at Best of the West by Texas Multi-gun on July 20th. Not knowing just how much I'd like it, I just picked up a used 870 for a good deal and put a +5 Star Tac extension on it. The first day, the thing wouldn't work (yes I took out the bumps in the tube). It wouldn't feed past 5 shells reliably, and would catch pushing the shells out of the tube if I did get 9 shells into it. However, today it hasn't missed a beat. Could it be that leaving it over night allowed the spring to break in a little? I'm going to continue loading it and unloading it to verify, but for now, have any of you experienced an extension just working better over time?
Also, I've smoothed the sharp and rough edges that would tear up my thumb when loading. Are there any other basic changes I should make to the gun? Thanks |

If it's an 870 Express, look inside the factory mag tube. IIRC, the last one of these I put together, there is an indentation in the tube that interferes with more than 5 shells. A dremel will take care of it. I could be wrong, it's been quite a few years ago. I'm guessing those are the bumps he was referring to that he has already removed... -Nw- |
