I shot what I believe is the first GPA match in my area. It went okay. Only 33 shooters showed up although closer to 40 or 45 were signed up originally. I came in 7th and was 2nd place on a couple stages. What hurt me most was shooting out of sequence on a couple banks of targets and then blowing over a fault line. I also made the rookie mistake of sticking a partial mag into a pouch and then forgetting to check it or move it before the next stage started. That cost me a couple seconds doing my surprise flat footed reload. Stages were pretty simple. Some but not tons of movement. I think the highest round count was 18 and the lowest was 12. 6 stages in all. They were kind of like old school USPSA stages back before everything was a 32 round field course. As a result the match went pretty quickly. Some confusion over rules and reloads. For example I think one squad all did a reload while moving into the first shooting position before any shots were fired. Others were told the reload could only be done after at least one round had been fired. In another instance a shooter was given a Mike penalty for taking a makeup shot on a popper. Interestingly, out of the 33 present, probably 25 of them considered themselves USPSA people and not IDPA people. Lots of USPSA belt rigs present. I think three of us were using duty-type rigs. Would I do it again? Yeah probably. Once everyone gets comfortable with the rules it should go pretty smoothly. I don't see it necessarily taking over or replacing IDPA or USPSA but rather giving shooters of both sports sort of a neutral watering hole at which to gather.

Thanks for the replies everyone. The club I belong to will have something similar to GPA in October and a GPA match in November. Some of the members are fed up with IDPA and lobbied for GPA.
