How much slide lightening can be done to a pistol without going into open class?  I'd like to do more to my XDm 5.25 and machine my backup to match it.  I'm also considering switching to an M&P Pro and would like to lighten the slide on that similar to my XDm 5.25.

As long as you don't port your barrel, I am not aware of any restrictions on how much your slide weighs in any outlaw 3-gun matches.

Not a problem for any match rules I know of, but would make your gun ineligible for USPSA Production division. I like to shoot my M&P9 in both 3-Gun and USPSA matches to leverage the training value to the max, so I have avoided mods like lightened slide, replacement match trigger, mag well etc. to remain Production-legal.

Is production the most common class in USPSA or is there something else?  It wouldn't put me in open would it?  I also though you could do trigger mods in production.

Production is the most common class. Slide lightening would take you out of production and put you in limited.

So is the XDm 5.25 legal in production?  It comes with lightening cuts in the slide.

The XDM 5.25 slide lightening cut is factory and that particular model is on the production division approved list. So, yes, it is OK for production. Non-factory cuts are only approved for limited, limited-10 and open.

3-Gun Nation rules and many others basically allow any pistol that would be legal for production or limited in the tactical divisions (tactical optics & tactical irons).

Dustin, even lightened you would still be able to use it in Limited, which would also let you load your magazines up to full capacity.  I've been using my 3 gun pistol in Limited (minor) so that I can use my 22 round mags.  I lose a few points here and there because of the minor power factor (9mm), but I just try to shoot for As.

Why are you lightening your slide?

Less muzzle flip/rise.  I like what the cut on the XDm 5.25 did and I want more.  I also want it done on my regular XDs that I use as back ups.

Do you mean the 5.25 flips less than the standard 4.24" barrel XDM9?

Reason I ask is the guns with slide lightening I've used don't flip less because they weigh less.  The slide cycles faster making the sights return to where the belong quicker.

The reason the Glock 34 and the XDM 5.25 have a lightened slide is so they cycle faster like the G17 and XDM9.  They can also use the same recoil springs as a result.

Out of curiosity:  when you guys are getting your Glock slides cut & lightened, are you adjusting your recoil spring weight as well?

I always shot cheap factory federal bulk pink box 115hr from Walmart.  I would have preferred shooting a slower 124 or 147 though.  But time for reloading was never in my schedule so I bought.  Now I'm shooting Freedom Munitions 124's in my STI's.
