Its almost time for a new desktop build. My current desktop is AM4 so I will go with a new build. Noctua's NH-D15 only allows for 32mm memory with both fans. The lowest mainstream ram I can find is G Skill X5 at 33mm. 1mm is not much room but will this be a problem when installing the NH-D15? |

The reason being its replacement is just around the corner. It will probably take another year for the chromax.black variant to come out.  Also, what chip is this you're trying to cool? My 3950X maxes out at 73° C under load with the NH-U12A that has universal RAM compatibility. This cooler is available in chromax.black. |

I recently changed my 5800X3D from liquid to air-cooled. I bought the $40.00 Thermalright Peerless Assassin. I had to offset the rear fan about 10mm to clear my HP V10 RAM (47mm height.) Doesn't seem to matter, as I see about 37°C idle, and 52°C running FS2020 on a very modest smart fan profile. I'm very happy with the purchase. I understand wanting to go with Noctua, since their fans are legendary. But for me, the money I saved, and the reviews I've seen, made this a 'no-brainer' purchase. Good kit, with included Intel and AMD mounts. The only gripe is the plastic backplate. It's stiff enough, but metal would be better for a heavy thing hanging off my motherboard. TR just came out with a new cooler called the Phantom Spirit. This is a good review of both, compared to a lineup of other popular coolers (including the NH-U12A and NH-D15.) Has some good charts. Kind of a screwy video title. The Phantom doesn't 'wreck' the Assassin. In fact, he says that Assassin owners don't need to buy the newer model.
