jalopnik It’s stylish, it’s loud, it’s fast, it’s comfortable and believe it or not, also dead reliable, as Mike Musto points out. What more can you ask from a ‘64 Ford? I’m a bit hooked on very fast Ford Fairlanes ever since I saw what they can do against some hardcore touring cars around the Goodwood Circuit. But those are stripped out race cars while Colin Sebern’s ‘64 is a modified Thunderbolt clone engineered to be the perfect daily driver with a bone stock exterior hiding modern underpinnings that use racing technology to make this boat handle like no other Fairlane. |

Probably my favorite non-mustang classic Ford.
Fairlanes and Galaxies. Bad ass. |

Nice. I'm in the process of restoring a 62 fairlane right now.

Cool car. 331/T56 is a great choice. Though for all the attention to making it a reliable DD, I wonder if the e-brake works (@8:10).

What is up with a well done car with crap paint?
This is something the current crop of neckbeards must be into. I owned a restoration shop for Mopars for years. I get the whole "original paint" thing. If a nice Mopar rolled in with decent original paint I would work around it to KEEP the paint. What I'm seeing lately is a total crapped out paint job from the '80's with 70% rust showing through, then putting 50k into mechanicals. Sorry.... just do not get it. |

My car during high school was a '67 Galaxie two door with a 390. What was left of the paint was Bullitt green.
Sure wouldn't mind having that back again. I also loved the '64 Fairlanes and '64 Galaxies fastbacks too. |

The holman moody fairlanes are amazing. Yes they were. A few years ago they ran off a few more new ones for customers to buy . They are now running off a few new GT-40s |

I had a 63 Fairlane 500 with souped up 289. Came home from work one day and my wife had sold it for $300.
I still haven't gotten over it and that was 37 years ago. |

For me, it needs to be a big block car to be a clone. Granted it has plenty of power now, but the whole thing about the Thunder Bolts was the 427. It's still a cool car though.

I had a '66. Was my daily driver but I sold it around the time my daughter was born.

I've wanted to build a Thaunderbolt clone for years. I had a line on a complete body that my sister's neighbor had. The next time I got a chance to go home and went to talk to the owner, they had sold the body the week before. For decades that body has sat in the field behind their house and just before I was going to make an offer, someone spotted it, bought it and hauled it off to Canada.

My Father worked for Ford in 64 and 65. First time I saw big engines was in the classes he taught and some of the cars Ford would send him. One was a 65 Galaxy with a 427 Holman & Moody Sideoiler. He burned the tires off of that thing.
Ford would send out something new/used every now and then and the old stuff would have to go back. He could have bought anything he wanted. Which turned out to be a 65 Galaxy 4dr XL with a 352. We are a Mustang family though and have had them since they went on sale in 1964. Ed |

My parents had a 64 Fairlane, 2 door coupe. My earliest memories are of that car. Black, chrome everywhere.

I'm not a 60's Ford body style fan but I respect those early muscle cars with shoehorned engines.

The problem is that it's still a FORD. View Quote Based on my experiances driving police cars for the past 11 years, Fords are reliable...the others...not so much. Cops are hard on cars. Cars that last a long time with cops driving them are tough vehicles. Feel free to buy a used police firearm, odds are it's been carried alot, rarely shot, pretty much gently used. Police cars on the otherhand are the exact opposite...used, abused, and beat up. |

It's because I can't afford the 15- 20K for a paint job that I want to put on it, and what guys ask for a paint job just because it's a classic MOPAR. So I continue to make it as mechanically bad ass as I can as funds trickle in. I also pass a lot of broken down old cars on the streets with super awesome paint jobs. |
