Hit 38 years at the end of next month. Beats milking cows. |

Yes, but only for the discount at Lowe's. I needed a new cordless drill.

View Quote I joined around the same time, but very few pictures. I wish it was as easy to take pics back then as it is now. So many memories exist only in my head, and sadly, they fade. |

Army 80 - 87
Initially 16C Hercules Fire Control Crewmember. It was a prerequisite for 24P school. Then 24P Defense Acquisition Radar Mechanic until 84. Then I reenlisted as a 26Y Satellite Communications Equipment Repair. 24P and 26Y were both dead end jobs. 24P because Nike was on it's way out. 26Y because they were planning to deploy a bunch of new systems shortly after I reenlisted so they flooded the MOS with new people. Then the program was canceled leaving more people in the MOS than job slots in the field. So I got out. My recruiter initially wanted me to go 93B Air Traffic Controller, but I was enlisting with a friend. He talked me into the Nike MOS. First week of basic a feather allergy from the pillow uncle Sugar gave him put my friend in the hospital. That put him a 6-week cycle behind me. 6-months later he failed out of 24P school, and they shipped him off to somewhere as a 16C. So much for a buddy. If I had gone 93B I would have graduated school a few months after Reagan fired the FCC air traffic controllers. After a year of OJT I would have been eligible for an early out and walked right into an FCC ATC job. I have always regretted the decision not to go 93B. |

If there was a medical reason for not joining, you should just tell people your MOS was 4 Foxtrot.

I didn’t want to be Drafted, so I enlisted.
It made sense at the time. |

I worked with a guy who said he was going to join the Marine Corps; but his Mother wouldn’t let him. He was serious. |

I wanted to be in particular regiment, and if you enlisted/volunteered, you could choose where you went. If you were drafted, they could send you anywhere they wanted/needed you. |

yup.
funny how all these tactical mall ninja's, fast food worker's, etc say they would "punch a drill sgt in the face" cause no one can tell them what to do. I'm sure your boss at McDonalds tells you what to do, toughguys. Dont underestimate drills...all my DI's were ripped. I mean come on, all they do is work out all day and smoke joe's (at least they used to, but it's a kinder, gentler army now). |
