Are you a vertical or horizontal kind of person, or are you a train wreck?
Vertical so the dust falls through the slot rather than collecting.
OCD. I was taught vertical.
It really doesn't matter, but... the OCD. |
My builder taught me vertical and asked me to go back and realign the screws in my own house, that I hadn’t lined up, while building my house.
I replace mine with the covers that hide the screws.
But vertical otherwise. |

We are talking about the slot in the screw heads? Wherever they end up when the screw is tightened to the correct torque.

I couldn’t imagine being so anal retentive that I worry about the screw orientation on my wall plates.
I put every cover on in my house and never gave a thought to screw orientation. Get a life, OP.

I am a minority.
I like horizontal. And I don't worry about dust because I wipe them down every month or so..... |

If misaligned screw heads is chaotic neutral, misaligned screw heads with a white plate on over an ivory switch is chaotic evil. |
It Depends…
Vertical if on a tall wall for symmetry. Horizontal on a short wall or counter wall..also for symmetry. Screw alignment must flow… You guys who think that one size fits all are unimaginative, have no sense of space and should not be trusted with a screwdriver.. |

I regularly edc a multi tool to covertly unfuck people’s wall plate screws when they invite me to their home.
It’s a free service I provide…you’re welcome. |
Always vertical in my own home and for customers. It looks cleaner and buttoned up. It's one of those things that isn't that big of deal but it looks cleaner and is one less thing to draw attention to.

As long as the cover doesn't move, I don't give a shit what position the screw slot is.

I like it. Usually the worst I do , if the meal was not to my liking, is randomly give all the screws a quarter turn. I really need to up my game… |

Horizontal. It's how my grandpa did it and it's how my old man does it so it's how I do it. Vertical is for casuals.
I special order triangular bit screws. Yield sign orientation, or pointy side down.
