The reactor meltdown at Fukushima killed exactly zero people despite all the hype and handwringing from the two digit IQ crowd.

So that's actually a pretty good analogy.

Dumb fucks.

I'm pretty sure that some employees of the plant died

No.

I bet that there were some Liberals that died from paranoia.

There were also a couple people that died when a giant wave from the mother fucking ocean buried them in a world of shit.

Just a couple.

I got to thinking: What would the world be like if, say, 3 years from now 90% of the Earth's entire population (100% in crowded cities and shithole countries) was dead from mutated corona virus?

Things would surely get interesting.

That would stop civilization cold.  Not enough people to run the grid, utilities, internet, manufacturing, agriculture, transportation.  And not enough knowledgeable people will survive to rebuild.  We would be back to a pre-industrial society quickly.

Chernobyl would be a more apt analogy.

Power, temperature, reactivity, and so forth ... Fukushima is a poor example, unless the author or person they quoted thinks Brazil is already past the worst of their epidemic and just can't find a way to deal with those who are already sick or dead without devolving into unmitigated disaster.

According to my Indian coworker who is in Hyderabad, a ton of people died, but they are mainly "dalits" or lower caste, so nobody gives a shit.

Edit to add- I don't trust his usage or scale of "ton". His grasp of English is basic and a lot of stuff is lost on him.

Lost 4 hard-won reactors to catastrophic damage.  Billions spent and more billions to be spent in site mitigation efforts.  Dramatically reversed the direction of the Japanese nuclear industry.  Germany committed to shutting all of their remaining plants down.  A one-two punch for the US market with natural gas availability.  A multi-decadal setback for any hopes of nuclear expansion in a market environment.  An opportunity for top-down, non-market economies in their nuclear efforts.  A dramatic realignment [misalignment] of strategic energy concepts of developed nations.  And so forth.

And most people would never even notice.

I'd kinda like to go back to journalism of the mid-20th century,  when they report what did happen, and did NOT project what might happen.

Hell...there is a non-zero probability that a massive celestial body moving at a speed incalculable by humans is on a trajectory to slam into the sun tomorrow and end our entire solar system, leaving nothing but plasma in its wake. I'm still going to put the garbage out though, because there is a higher probability that it won't happen.

From what I saw of Brazil during the olympics I wouldn't go there without a full body condom, a "Bubble Boy" suite,  ...

... a tetanus shot. and a 55 gallon drum of hand sanitizer on a self-propelled cart.

However, also based on what I've seen, I'm sure the singe men of ARFCOM would open their homes to attractive Brazilian female covid refugees, after a good hot bath, a suitable quarantine, and, well, ...  a "Brazilian".

The same for attractive female North Korean and Venezuelan economic refugees - at least you know they won't be fat!

1.  Rural survival compounds, complete with ...

3.  ... "Have her bathed and sent to my quarters" would FINALLY mean something!  Make HHBASTMQ Great Again!
4.   Realistic real estate and "collector" car prices.
5.  Detroit will still be a shithole.
6.  Lots of "shovel ready projects" - mass graves.
7.  Africa will still be a shithole.
8.  Trans pronouns, "climate change", gender pay gap, and other made-up problems will be supplanted with more real and urgent issues, like eating, not being raped by roving gangs, getting fuel, etc.
9.  China will still be a shithole, that still eats entirely inappropriate things.
10.  U.N. delegates from shithole countries stationed in New York City will no longer get homesick.
11.  The population of North Korea won't know anything happened, except for whoever has to order Kim Jong Whoever's liquor.
12.  "Grey's Anatomy" continues to air.  Guys continue to hate it.
13.  Portland commies declare "Autonomous Zone" - no one notices.
14.  Cuba is still a shithole.
15.  Lack of Nike track suits and dashboard cameras brings Russian economy to a halt.
16.  Bitcoin returns to its intrinsic value of "zero".
17.  I finally get the last piece to my "Civil War Collectors Chess Set" but have to train soccer moms in my harem to have someone to play against.

My bro-in law is a doc down there. While we were there in January he said he saw lots of cases; but rarely fatal.

He says this newer version of the virus is much worse.  And quick acting.

My wife’s childhood friend died today in Brazil from the virus as well.
