Jim she says her father never mentioned seeing Americans and since he has passed it's impossible to ask him. I wish I had thought about that years ago but to be honest she says both him and her older brother spoke very little about their time in captivity. They were out in the bush along the Chinese border and lived on rats and bugs basically.

Bit of a change up from the usual here.

My father went to Vietnam as a navy yeoman. What he saw there left him so disillusioned that he became a communist. Spent most of the 70s identifying as such. Though by the time I was born he had mellowed to just being a really hardcore socialist with a hint of Maoist.

A couple years ago I read him the communist manifesto. Crazy bipolar bastard had never read it before in his life. He was stunned by what was in there.

Growing up in Eugene Oregon I was surrounded by Trotskyites. Of all the flavors of communism I hate that the most. Stalinists and Maoists aren't housebroken. They can't be reasoned with. Trotskyism has an intellectual tinge that appeals to certain liberals and more conservatives than you can imagine. But it's still the same old religion of bending, hen breaking the human animal to ideas that are just plane wrong.

My grandfather met my grandmother while installing Thor missles for Project Emily.

So, yeah, I wouldn't be here if not for those fucking Commies.

My grandmother took my 5 year old father and fled Yugoslavia at the end of the war, since commies everyone claims were 'moderate' and all happy killed one uncle and arrested my grandfather. He never quite forgave commies for that one, and equated communists to democrats the moment he was freed and joined the family in America. Helluva guy.

If I could push a button and just stop the hearts of commies everywhere, I would. They are AIDS, cancer, and ebola, all mixed together.

No Family on my side directly affected aside from Nuke drills and the like, but Ronald Reagan built up the Army and I was one

of them and our enemy was the Communists.

In laws lived in Gimpo and lost everything at the time when the communists invaded. Mother inlaw carried her

brother on her back walking all the way to Pusan.

Like you I will still fight them with all my heart.

My dad drove an M67 flame tank in Vietnam, and got blown up a few times, one AT mine, one RPG and one mortar attack. Each time, the tank saved the crew, and they lived to roast commies another day.

He said that if they were suppressing a woodline, you could see the tracers from both sides going back and forth, but when they cut loose with the flamethrower, all the green tracers (and everything else the commies had) would converge on the flame tank. Nobody wanted to be roasted alive, I guess...

I despise communists, I reserve my hottest hate for American communists, who would turn our country into the Soviet Union if they could.

Was born in Germany and before the wall came down we had family that was stuck in East Germany. Family used to smuggle coffee, smokes and jeans over to them. The way most people survived in the East was eye opening and made a huge impression on me as a kid. We as a nation are headed down that road unless things change. To hell with communism !!!

my wife's story is similar, she got out of Vietnam in '93 as well, her father spent 7 years in "re-education" getting the shit beat out of him on a regular basis to the point where he had detached retinas. He also lost several feet of intestine because of his time in the camp. My wife was not allowed to complete her education there, got her GED when she got here, then an AS in radiology as an xray tech and has been an MRI tech for the last 14 years. Not bad for someone who came here with $10 in her pocket and no english who still managed to find a job the 2nd day she was here. With OT and shift differentials she'll probably out earn me this year and she votes a straight republican ticket.  So fuck commies and all the entitled parasites I'm surrounded by here in CT.

Now that Hillary has got the nomination in the bag, and the Republicans are eating each other to help her win, I'm guessing it won't be long before we start seeing some of the same things here that people ran away from Europe, Asia and South America to escape.

The story goes that my great grandfather was a timber exporter.  He sold a load of timber to a company in Cuba that was nationalized by Fidel.  Apparently he got on a plane and flew down there and came back with a check.

Post WW2 reconstruction in Greece .. during the Greek Civil War, my grandmothers brother was shot and killed by Communist insurgents/ sympathizers. His crime came down to the fact that he would join up with them.

They tried to kill my Grandfathers brother  in Greece as well , they held him in a jail which was effectively a castle  a but he was able to pull a  Shawshank Redemption/ Andy Dufresne and crawl out via their sewer system

Two of my matrelinial  uncles are over weight diabetic union pensioners suffering
from a general malaise brought on by 25 years of retirement with no anxiety over where
the next check was coming from and never traveling beyond their rust belt mill town
except to go fishing half way across the state

Their bother  was a plant manager who retired 15 years ago to costal South Carolina, does some consulting work
and golfs three days a week, weighs the same as when he graduated high school and requires
minimal resources from the medical pool

I guess I could say Communism has had an effect on two thirds of my mother's siblings
