TUNNEL HILL, Ga. — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation arrested a Tunnel Hill police officer Wednesday on charges of theft, and violation of oath of office. The GBI says 47-year-old Scott Reneau took money from the Tunnel Hill Police Department's evidence room. The money totaled $37,000 from various traffic stops that Reneau conducted in 2015.
"Unfortunately something went awry here and it's a dark day for us," said Roy Brunson, Tunnel Hill Police Chief. "But it's one of those things that happens and we just have to deal with it." View Quote |

I heard they found a medieval times application in his pocket when he was searched.

He seized the money on traffic stops and tagged it as evidence, then he stole it ?
Weird. And the PD doesn't deposit seized cash into a bank account? If the physical cash itself isn't actual evidence it should be in the bank. |

Better pay attracts a better employee. Nobody I work with would dream of throwing their life away for 3 months pay. |

City has a population of 1200. It's possible he was an unpaid reserve. I'm also on board with the gambling addiction angle.
Why the hell are they keeping cash in the evidence room (which more than likely a drawer in the chief's file cabinet) in the first place? |

At least, that's the only thing I can come up with to explain such behavior. That's nuts. |

Unpaid is no justification for theft though. He was a unit sergeant seven years ago so I doubt he's unpaid. The problem isn't where the money is stored. The problem is a crooked cop. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

If the allegations are true, he sounds like a grade A POS. There are good cops and there are bad cops. It's pretty dumb to accuse them all or defend them all. |
