A family-owned restaurant in Pennsylvania is under a state discrimination investigation for offering a ten percent discount for diners who present a church bulletin on Sundays. The Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission confirmed there is an investigation against Prudhomme’s Lost Cajun Kitchen in the town of Columbia. The complaint was filed by John Wolff, a retired electrical engineer. “I did this not out of spite, but out of a feeling against the prevailing self-righteousness that stems from religion, particular in Lancaster County,” Wolff told the York Daily Record. “I don’t consider it an earth-shaking affair, but in this area in particular, we seem to have so many self-righteous religious people, so it just annoys me.” According to the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act, a restaurant classified as a public accomodation. As such, restaurants are not allowed to discriminate based on religion — among other things Sharon Prudhomme, who owns the restaurant along with her husband, said she’s not discriminating against anybody – and plans on fighting the charges. “What freaks me out is the state of Pennsylvania is basically agreeing with this guy,” Prudhomme told Fox News Radio. “We’re just a mom and pop. We’re not some big chain like the Olive Garden.” Prudhomme said the trouble started in April of 2011 when she received the first of several letters from the Freedom From Religion Foundation. The FFRF is a Wisconsin-based organization of “more than 17,000 freethinkers, atheists, agnostics and skeptics,” according to its website. The FFRF demanded that she stop giving discounts to patrons who brought in a Sunday church bulletin. |

I own and operate a small business and ANY member of the clergy gets a discount: Baptist, Catholic, Methodist, doesn't matter.

This is bullshit. The restaurant can discount whoever they want. What about the senior citizen discount?? Is that not discrimination based on age? Screw this stupid people with their foolish agendas. And the Chick-fila restaurants in the Gainesville, GA area do the same thing. |

Moe's Southwest Grill in Memphis does that, bring in church program Sunday after Church, and get 10% off. I really hate people who get in other people's shit that doesn't effect them in any way.....Control, it's all about control  I really hope these people (Prudhomme) fight this and win

Every place offering a Old Fart discount should immediately stop offering it. Same for birthday discounts,
Privately owned, as far as I'm concerned they can offer whatever discount they want to. And yeah, this particular atheist is just a pissy old self hating git who absolutely did it out of spite. |

They should be allowed to offer discounts or refuse service to anyone for whatever reason they want to. |

If I own a business, and I want to give a 10% discount to people like the article stated, that is MY choice. I am marketing myself at that group and not discriminating against anyone. Maybe next week I will give anyone who brings in proof they donated over $20 to a local charity that I support...again..my choice. These militant Atheist/Anti-Religon types need to back off and worry about their own lives. If they don't like the fact that this place is doing this, they just should have their local friends vote with their wallets and not dine there. |

By the way there is no discrimination, nothing is stopping him from going by the church and picking up a bulletin to take in for a discount. He can most likely do it even if he is and atheist, if he has the guts to step through the front door of the church.

If I have a, say, Vegetarian place of dining, it is discrimination if I offer all the members of the local Buddhist Sanghas(congregation) a 10% discount? I would say..NO! I would call it marketing myself to a segment of the market where I know I might get some customers as I know that there are many Buddhists who are Vegetarian. This is exactly the same, IMHO. The owners of this business know there are plenty of Chuch going locals who might go out to eat after service, so they marketed themselves at them. Last time I checked, it was not illegal in any state of the US to make such discount offers. What this says to me is that a bunch of Atheist/Anti-Religon nuts got all butt hurt and are "trying to make a statement". They need to STFU and get hit in court with a fine for wasting court time. |
