All I've wanted from Subaru for years is to put a turbo driveline in the crosstrek.

Yes! It doesn't even need to be an STI trim but I'd take a 2.4 turbo model, hell I'd even take a EJ205 model. Or they could do the 207 twin scroll lol

Nice.

Though I'm guessing no STI launch, and that's all that matters

Wish Mitsu didn't suck and brought back a legit Evo. Should have never sold my X or my DSMs for that matter.

You know that's never happening

Doubt this thing will even have an 8 speed dual wet clutch available

I could be wrong though so we will see

Same. I have a '17 Forester 2.5i premium 6 speed manual. It's not fast but it moves out ok for a daily. The 2.0l/6 speed was slower than my forester. When I found out the 2.5l was finally getting put in I had some hope but they didn't bother to include the 6 speed ('18 was the last year of it in the Forester). The CVT/2.5l is about as fast as my Forester despite the crosstrek being smaller.  I would have loved a 200-250hp turbo crosstrek. It would be that sweet spot for a daily of versatility and fun.

271 and 258what pathetic numbers in this day and age. Jesus subaru. And this is from someone who has had two turbo Legacies, and at one point owned a GC8, bug eye, and blob at the same time. What a fucking disappointment.

ETA VA .2 model. But uglier. If they'd bring back the hatch, it might look decent but that cladding and weird trunk/c pillar is gross.

I loved my 2018 WRX and that looks horrible. About 20-30hp/tq off the mark of being remotely competitive, and exterior looks garbage. Looks like the only worthwhile thing they did was the driving dynamics control on the GT trim.
Link Posted: 9/10/2021 8:19:48 AM EST
[#23]
So they added the crosstrek cladding but didn't make one with better ground clearance or put that engine in the crosstrek?

It's like opposite world lol.

I don't think it's horrible but after so many decades and stupid incremental updates I am pretty underwhelmed.

I do like the looks of this… but they should be in the 325hp range by now shouldn’t they? Or are they worried about turning someone’s midlife crisis wagon into an end of life event?

I was really hoping those plastic fenders were limited to the GT trim but nope...they ruin it for me.

And 99% chance they are molded into the full fender like the WRX, so no pulling them off for a body color fender flare. And the front end bottom lip got HIGHER not lower. I just can't.

Came here to post this.

Ridiculous.  It’s the same horsepower they’ve had since basically mid 2000’s.  It wasn’t all that impressive then and its really not impressive now.

The interior looks nice.  The exterior is fine, they’ve always looked sharp, but even in STI form they are not a bang for your buck car anymore.  It’s certainly disappointing compared to the concepts from the last couple years.  It looks too much like the Cross/outback models with all the body pieces. I could live with the looks….but

The STI is $46,000 loaded and cant competed with anything really from a power standpoint.  Audi, Benz, BMW….have hot hatches.  The S3, RS3….. The Golf R at lease got an upgrade on performance for 2022 and some other goodies though it’s also expensive at $45,000 for what it is.

Disappointing.  The WRX needs to be in the 300hp/300tq range at least and the STI at lease 400/400.  I’ve been literally waiting for that car.  Test drove a 2018 STI on Wednesday actually and an WRX on Thursday with some hope.  I’ve almost bought a WRX 2-3 times but they just haven’t quite got me.

The Nissan Z will whoop up on it and I’m still interested in it.

This is Subarus exit from the performance enthusiast market. This is a Impreza/Legacy GT, not a WRX. WRX used to be THE option if you wanted an AWD peppy car with good handling. Now the handling and AWD is ubiquitous across the market, and they absolutely bombed in the power and looks department. Shameful.

Our Highlander AWD only has 295 HP /263 torque and It's pretty damn fast. I imagine this weighs a little less, so still fast. Shitty head gasket, butt ugly lezbo mobile, but fast.

Fast is 400-500 hp in a 2700 lb car. Well my 3200 lb 04 350Z had these same numbers in 2004, naturally aspirated. And cars don't get lighter, they get heavier. And these are the same numbers as the STIin 2004. GD chassis will always be best all around WRX chassis. It's like they're not even trying at this point. I had hopes back in '08 when the hatch came out and then went wide body. It's been a continual let down since then. And no one has yet to get big reliable numbers out of the FA20how long as that motor been out now?

I can’t believe they are still hung up on NOT selling a hatchback WRX.  Had a 2015 and loved it, but when half of them sold are hatches and they decided to only sell sedans?  Epic fail.
