According to the .gov SPACE WEATHER PREDICTION CENTER the earth will experience several CME impacts in the next few days.
What you do with the information is up to you |

none are more pathetic than the weekly solar flare doomers. but maybe next time!!!

This looks very bad.
Should we stock up a bit? Maybe 4X more ice and beer for the weekend? |

Analysis of Solar Active Regions and Activity from 07/2100Z to 08/2100Z: Solar activity has been at high levels for the past 24 hours. The largest solar event of the period was a X1 event observed at 08/0141Z from Region 3663 (N26W70). There are currently 6 numbered sunspot regions on the disk. IB. Solar Activity Forecast: Solar activity is likely to be high on days one, two, and three (09 May, 10 May, 11 May). IIA. Geophysical Activity Summary 07/2100Z to 08/2100Z: The geomagnetic field has been at quiet to unsettled levels for the past 24 hours. Solar wind speed reached a peak of 548 km/s at 08/0256Z. Electrons greater than 2 MeV at geosynchronous orbit reached a peak level of 151 pfu. IIB. Geophysical Activity Forecast: The geomagnetic field is expected to be at quiet to active levels on day one (09 May), unsettled to minor storm levels on day two (10 May) and minor storm to major storm levels on day three (11 May). Protons have a chance of crossing threshold on days one, two, and three (09 May, 10 May, 11 May). III. High Latitudes Active 15/10/05 Minor Storm 30/25/20 Major-severe storm 50/65/75 This says 75% chance of a Major / Severe storm on the 11th and that does not include the 12 which is when the big CME is supposed to hit because at the date / time group this was made, that last CME ( the one early this morning ) had not happened yet. The hair is standing up on the back of my neck so to speak. View Quote If I remember right they determined that the Carrington event was two CME's with the first depleting the ionosphere and paving the way for the full force of the second. Looks like this may be a similar happening. |

This is like lots of decent wins at the slot machine but really hoping for the jackpot. |

View Quote With the multiple impacts and the earth’s magnetic field strength has decreased a lot since 2003. This could have the same impact as then or worse. Either way the light show is going to be great. |

NOAA is saying cme will merge and G4 conditions late the 10 or the 11th
"G 4 Severe Power systems: Possible widespread voltage control problems and some protective systems will mistakenly trip out key assets from the grid. Spacecraft operations: May experience surface charging and tracking problems, corrections may be needed for orientation problems. Other systems: Induced pipeline currents affect preventive measures, HF radio propagation sporadic, satellite navigation degraded for hours, low-frequency radio navigation disrupted, and aurora has been seen as low as Alabama and northern California (typically 45° geomagnetic lat.). Kp = 8, including a 9- 100 per cycle (60 days per cycle)" https://www.swpc.noaa.gov/news/g4-watch-effect-may-11 |

Quoted: It seems like solar flares are heading toward us every other week, and nothing. I'm not trying to troll, but explain to me in layman's terms why this 4 non-events are going to be an event. View Quote I dunno, I guess it's like someone shooting a 45/70 with no sights at you from 1000yds away, on a long enough time line they're going to land one, it's just math. |

Quoted: Will we get auroras in SW ID? View Quote @migradog Probably. This is what my email said: Navigation - Satellite navigation (GPS) degraded or inoperable for hours. Radio - HF (high frequency) radio propagation sporadic or blacked out. Aurora - Aurora may be seen as low as Alabama and northern California. |

That combined with the IMF Bz going solidly South for most of the night pushed us into G4 solar storm conditions for most of the night and briefly pushed us into G5 territory and nothing happened to the power grid. This storm isn't expected to reach that strength and it certainly isn't going to last as long. I wouldn't worry. |

I am naked and oiled with a tin foil helmet on.
The sprinkler system has been charged with gasoline and tracer rounds have been loaded. I have spread clothes and furniture in the front yard to appear as though we have already been looted. The boomba roomba has been deployed. Standing by to stand by. This better be real this time…! Going 0 dark 30, danger close. See you on the other side friends. |

Quoted: Will we get auroras in SW ID? View Quote Pictures from a couple months back showed people seeing glow from it at Bogus, or a little further north like Council/Cascade. Watching them on the SWPC website was neat because it seemed like there were a couple spots just pumping out flares. It will be interesting to see because of the line of them that are directed to earth, and each flare was a few hours apart. |

Hopefully no Carrington crap happens while I’m on a damn airplane on the 13th. And I certainly don’t wanna be stuck in Minneapolis without a gun during a power outage

So what are the statistical chances of a Carrington event in any given year of elevator solar activity?
