The U.S. argues that entering the Titanic’s severed hull — or physically altering or disturbing the wreck — is regulated by federal law and its agreement with Britain. Among the government’s concerns is the possible disturbance of artifacts and any human remains that may still exist. “RMST is not free to disregard this validly enacted federal law, yet that is its stated intent,” U.S. lawyers argued in court documents filed Friday. They added that the shipwreck “will be deprived of the protections Congress granted it.” https://apnews.com/article/titanic-expedition-rmst-marconi-radio-ce027ac27d8f4804304b5f33fa471dda |

If they make the sub out of carbon fiber they don’t really need to worry about it.

2023 is going to be the year the death toll at the titanic increases.

What... the US wants to control shit two miles below the surface of the ocean in international waters? The hell you say! Evidently we're going all Spain on shit now.

They don't want anyone getting close enough to see that it wasn't an iceberg that sank it.

The same way they can read every email and text you send without a warrant, and you have no way to know whether or not they did it. Also, at that depth, temp and pressure, there are no more human remains. Even teeth and bone will disintegrate. This is already well established. |

Now do the US warship wrecks in the Java Sea. Come on Congress......

So the US Government cares about the borders of the Titanic and intruding on it?

IIRC, someone mentioned that to James Cameron, and he said he'd never seen a body in all of his time there.

RMS Titanic Inc. I think owns the rights to the wreck. They are based in Atlanta, GA. I think you have to get approval from them to dive the site or something.

If they didnt want people messing with their grave, they shouldnt have sank in international waters.

As much that has already been brought up from that site, now they have an issue?

NO one can see the tear in the hull it's under the sediment. Maybe under that sediment there is no tear and they never want that discovered. Maybe even the imposion was faked and no one died. I did hear that rumor.

Honestly the US needs to fuck off and let people do what they want.
With that said it needs to be very clear that the US coast guard will not be responding to future emergencies related to exploring the titanic. Stupid to waste tax payers money to rescue a bunch of stupid billionaires who take unnecessary risks. |
|
Why are my taxes paying for government lawyers to argue this?
Huge waste of money. We are reaching the point where the weight of government bureaucracy suffocates private enterprise. |
