Quoted: Exactly. If your “art” can be replaced by a machine, you never were an artist, you were a lesser machine. View Quote That sounds good and all, but what do "replaced" and "artist" mean in the practical sense? Lotta people write, draw, paint, etc. with no expectation of turning pro. Are they artists? Even most of the famous ones never got rich in their lifetimes. If you have to make a living being an artist then the number of seats in that arena are going to shrink immensely. I think that's the real issue. I remember lamenting not going into graphic design because it was a cash cow. Now I'm watching it become relatively worthless. |

The people turning out good stuff, especially those producing art with a consistent character, are putting a lot of work into training a private model. Models that are trained to produce a specific style or subject well and consistently are going to be worth money. |

Quoted: I know. It still matters to me that a person wrote something with inspirations from their actual life or other media that is important to them. Just AI? Fuck that. View Quote This is a massive problem with what is wrong with Hollywood. Midwit writers with shallow lives writing pathetic self inserts. They tell us over and over that the character is smart yet they keep doing stupid things because the writer has no idea how a smart person makes decisions. Good writers can write characters outside of their own personal experience, this is part of what makes them good... Is an AI drawing from existing published works and regurgitating them into a new form any different from what most writers do? |

Quoted: Actually it makes me really fucking sad. And I know this isn't being discussed very much yet. Very few people are thinking about this very deeply. I even know professional artists that are naively coping about it saying people will care how art is made. Well they won't. It's already over. I've been talking with friends about this but I feel the need to write it down. When AI art was just goofy shit it seemed harmless. But when these chat bots, AI voice programs, and AI image creators were getting good I was very distressed. But it seemed like it still wasn't a problem. Now that AI is getting really good I know the situation is fucked. But who cares, right? Fuck those spoiled artists. Fuck Hollywood. Yeah, I get it. But that's so fucking reductive. Art has been a key part of the human experience since the very beginning. It makes us who we are. Channeling all that is good and bad about life into music, stories, jokes, etc. To reduce that into a computer program that can just shit things out based on what humans made makes me sick. What's the point? So that you can have more movies, video games, music that is a unending stream created by AI? Fuck that. If this is the future the future sucks. View Quote |

If it gets reduced to ai I think that fucking sucks. If you can’t tell, I would agree. I believe you will always be able to tell. If you can’t, we as a society will have much bigger problems. Just ask Neo or John Conner. As I’ve outlined, these challenges have been present in visual art for decades. It’s a little new to music and writing but the challenges are similar because creativity is similar. Karen’s with digital SLRs have not done away with pros and Warhols production line didn’t do away painters. |

I even know professional artists that are naively coping about it saying people will care how art is made. Well they won't. It's already over. View Quote Waaaaah. Years ago I paid a friend's sister, who was a "professional graphic artist", to make me some Christmas cards. I told her quite specifically what I wanted drawn and written, and pointed her at the style I wanted used (I forget the name, it was a popular line of cards back then featuring cute cartoon animals). She said she'd have it ready RSN. Plenty of time before Christmas. Two days before Christmas, I got a box of dogshit that I wouldn't bother sending even to Joe Biden. Looked horrible, drawn in a sort of nightmare style, and the text wasn't even correct. I could do it today in AI and it would look more or less like I wanted it to look, and I wouldn't have to pay some drawfag for her/his "creativity" in ruining what I wanted. Artists did this to themselves. They went from Rembrandt to Escher (odd perspectives) to Dali (batshit insane) to Damien Hirst (dead cow in a vat of formaldehyde) to Yoko Ono drawing a single brushstroke across five canvasses and claiming that was "art". All I wanted was some nice Christmas cards to send to my family, bitch. |

If you want to be an artist now you had best focus on some sort of physical art like sculpture. It will take AI longer to make you irrelevant.

Adapt or become irrelevant. If digital art is your thing, maybe consider going back to canvas. Math didn’t disappear once the calculator came out

The other argument is that the 20th century model was an aberration in the history of the field. Now, it’s returning to form with the advent of neo-patronage whether that be crowd-funding, Patreon, Subscribe Star, etc

"Art" is in the beholder, not the creator
IF you find a piece or art, or a story, or some music that you connect with and enjoy, or moves you... Then you discover that piece was the creation of an algorithm from some silicon brain not a biological brain, and that changes how you feel about the "Art"... That is on you, not the "art" BTW - it is too late by a long time to start smashing the jacquard machines... |

I contacted a guy I knew in the jeep community who does logos. I need a simple one for youtube. Nothing wild or fancy. He told me he typically charges $1200 for a logo that I would love but since he knew me $800.
I went to Bing ai and made my own that I am very happy with. I'm all about supporting folks but $800 for a logo is nuts. If he does $800 worth of quality work more power to him but I simply couldn't justify that price. |

The Matrix theory of AI is that because AI that creates a feedback loop eventually "incests" itself to death, that it constantly needs new and fresh human ideas to seed it's own work.
So eventually they will just stick us all into suspended animation and harvest our dreams and fantasies.....should be fine. |
|

Not my wheelhouse but I feel it's definitely going to kill graphic design type stuff but may eventually make quality hand made stuff more valuable.
I just hope it destroys instathoths and what not, the use filters and whatnot to make themselves artificially attractive, why not just start from the ground up and let AI build the perfect hoe. I'm sure fake ai hoe accounts are a thing already, I want them to dominate. |

View Quote Unfortunately, I don't think the majority of people in western culture understand the importance of art anymore. People are willing to destroy (or attempt to destroy) timeless works of art with cans of soup and everyone else barely cares. Just another symptom of the cultural decline we're facing in the west. In almost all non-western cultures, art is still held in much higher regard and vandalizing it carries a heavy penalty because they realize that an attack on art is an attack on their culture itself. |

Quoted: I say this as some who has been involved in design over the last 25 years. It’s all disposable, fleeting, and ultimately worthless. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: I completely agree, what i'm arguing is that ai art will be an art form in the way of language and creativity to come up with a new form of art that is currently foreign to us. Those that saw the camera for the first time probably thought it would ruin portrait and landscape painters, and become a soulless art, yet we find it found a passion of its own. By lowering the effort for the entry window, it allows less struggle in the implementation of art, and allow more focus on the higher forms of creativity and vision. The implications of this will not lead to more creativity and vision. It'll be the exact opposite. I say this as some who has been involved in design over the last 25 years. It’s all disposable, fleeting, and ultimately worthless. In all fairness, there's a great divide separating the Mona Lisa from the Nike "Swish." I don't think OP is arguing from the position of graphic design. |

Quoted: I agree. The art reflects the times we live, and although it doesn’t do much for me, I appreciate what art does/did for humanity as a whole.
