I predict Xeroform gauze in your future, OP. Been there, done that.

Not that it would have helped OP especially in this situation but this is why we have grounded flammable cabinets and grounding cables on the 55 gallon drums of various solvents at work. Honestly not a bad idea for home either TBH.

Quoted: I'm guessing that after waiting an hour or so for the Doc in the Box, they called an ambulance to take him the the ER, the ER brought down a burn specialist and he either got transferred upstairs, or debreded and cleaned downstairs, and is so fucked up on morphine that he doesn't even know what arfcom is anymore. That or he waited to long, ended up with a blood infection and is allready dead. View Quote |

: Well, it IS NOT as bad as it looks! I still have intact layers of epidermis and the doctor wasn't concerned about infection so much because of that. Basically a huge blister that popped at some point in the fire sequence. They gave me some Silver Sulfadiazine and told me to keep it wrapped up for a couple weeks, and obviously if I start seeing any red streaking (blood infection) to go to the hospital. Thanks for all the advice none-the-less, ya'll are great people (when you wanna be)! Here is what it looked like today, before they trimmed off some of the dead skin. I'll get some new pictures when I change this dressing. https://www.AR15.Com/media/mediaFiles/149332/58cuAEFGQfiaXdjGQTrFBQ-810238.jpg https://www.AR15.Com/media/mediaFiles/149332/6XHXzzXfQjaXevpI5ZsCqg-810239.jpg ETA: Sorry, had to go to work after the doctor View Quote I am sort or same mind as OP, didn't understand why everyone thought you would die. I have had burns similar a couple of times, extremely painful, but ultimately was just time to heal.... |

Also thanks for the reminder to go out and check the fire extinguishers in the shop and order a smart speaker for out there, so I can tell it to call the hospital when I fuck myself up next |

You might want to ask your doc if it's OK for you to use some topical lidocaine anaesthetic along with the sulfa cream. That's going to get rather painful without it.
You're lucky it wasn't worse. Take steps to ensure you don't repeat this scenario. Get rid of the mats and be more careful with flammables. |

Glad you went to the doctor but I think there’s been a failure in arfcom protocols.
No one called dibs on OPs stuff. So I’m calling dibs on anything cool the OP has, just in case. |
|
|
I'm praying for some good healing op, I too have bad burned my hand before and I know how much it hurt and took to heal. Keep on top of it and be well.
|
|
You’re right. Probably smells like burned flesh as well.
|
|
You'll be fine, OP. Those are second degree burns, the dermis in your hand is very thick, it requires a lot to cause significantly deep burns in that skin.
Keep the silvadene on it for a couple of weeks, keep it covered, and change the dressings daily. |
|
OP, glad you are OK and on the mend. Folks, be very, very careful with flammable liquids! OP was lucky, one mistake can irreparably change your life and everyone's around you! Take an extra moment and think how you might F yourself up and be safe!

Meh. I had a Roman Candle blow up in my hand when I was a kid and I got pretty bad burns, I didn't bother going to the hospital*
*I was at my best friend's house, his dad was a doctor and his mom was a nurse. I got taken care of* *and then re-injured by my dad who had told me minutes before specifically to NOT hold a lit Roman Candle in my hand |

I got boiling water on my foot while wearing socks once. I jumped out of the path of the water and ripped my sock off. It degloved part of my foot much like your hand. Off to the ER I went. It took a long time to get seen. They hit me with morphine and told me in 15 minutes the pain would go away. In 30 minutes I'd be very tired. 45 minutes later I'm about to pass out from pain, asking when the morphine is supposed to kick in and if I can get more! But when they finally came by and put on some of that silver cream, it was instant relief. That stuff is magical.

Has any one call you "Lefty" yet?
Glad that you ok. I did the same thing not too long ago with a overheated radiator.... Not fun. Red |

Edit: nevermind. I saw the pics. There's no way that's not as bad as it looks

I did that to my hand crashing a motorcycle on asphalt without gloves.
You're going to find it to be a little hurty. At least I did when I did my own debridement, since the ER mistakenly gave me alcohol-impregnated scrub brushes. |
