It's Halloween Time....
Pick Your Favorite Creepy Family (original series) The Addams Family or The Munsters for those that vote base upon eye candy... Addams: Morticia Munsters: Lily Munsters: Marilyn My Pick? I believe the Addams Family had better story lines and overall production. oh, and IBTP |

As one who grew up when those were aired, Addams.
BTW, the creepiest family in America is Bubba, Hitlery and Webb Hubbell's bastage daugther. ETA: Hitlery is a real witch and the bastage daughter a satanist. |
|
The Addams family was better written. It was often... witty. The jokes on The Munsters were more lightweight.

No contest. Addam’s family hands down.
Morticia is smoking hot and, as a kid, I wanted to be Gomez when I grew up. They hold the test of time, better as well. |
|
I've been accused of being Gomez Addams.
My fiancee doesn't mind being called Wednesday. |
|
The Addams were more interesting messed up people than adapted movie monsters.
By far a better show. |
|
The Addams Family was great. Gomez was brilliantly written and acted.
The Munsters had its moments, but overall was not nearly as good. Grandpa was the highlight. |
|
We always watched The Addams Family. Never even knew about The Munsters until years later.

Mc Hammer-Addams family groove But I did dig Marilyn on the Munsters |

I've been accused of being Gomez Addams. My fiancee doesn't mind being called Wednesday. The creepy fits right in. She's Wednesday because when she was a little girl she used to conduct funerals for deceased small animals and birds that she found. The other little kids in the neighborhood would attend. |

Addams family hands down.
Morticia (Carolyn Jones) was my heart throb. |
|
If you were to burglarize both of their homes, the Munsters would have called the police and turned you over to them after Herman called you a bad man and shook his big fingers at you.
You might never be seen again if you'd been caught by the Addamses. The Addams family had a darker shadow. |

Addams.
The only redeeming factor of The Munsters where the cars. |
|
Yvonne DeCarlo is a much more attractive woman than Carolyn Jones

We loved watching the Addams Family when we were kids.
The Munsters didn't really thrill me, although it may have been because it was on a channel that was hard for us to tune in way out in rural America. We turned our antennae by hand. Primitive times, indeed. |

Praise OP.
Pretty sure I had a preference but can't seem to recall at this point. I appreciate the topic choice, though. |

The Gruesomes were best! https://i.ytimg.com/vi/bdOCN-E3Sx4/hqdefault.jpg I find both the Munsters and the Addams Family to be very watchable and entertaining. But the Munsters did a movie. (Not an 80s or 90s reboot.) I still think they should have done a "worlds collide" sort of crossover episode between the two families. That could have been fun. Both shows ran from 1964 to 1966, two seasons. View Quote |

Was one a rip-off of the other, or was it just an odd circumstance of similar concurrent shows?

The Charles Addams cartoons are great.
Even better than the TV show based on them. The Munsters are a lot more mass market. |
|
Addams, no contest.
Raul Julia was inspired casting for the movies. |
|
Addams over Munsters, but Lily over Morticia. Marilyn was such a background character that most folks didn't notice when the original actress was replaced.

Addams. The Munster family didn't keep a desk drawer full of krugerrands.
