China vs Taiwan. Trump versus Bidet. EVs vs pistons. UKE vs RUS. Israel vs the goat-humpers. Left versus Right. Stihl vs Husqvarna. Treadstone vs Bourne. Wick vs the High Table.
Cripes... what I wouldn't give to have a quiet, calm world. But that sort of placid existence doesn't help satisfy the voracious appetites of the evil powerbrokers around the world. I'm pretty over it at this point... but I'm well aware that it's been this way since the beginning, and it'll be that way until the end. |

OP I understand the sentiment. If it is really upsetting, buy some land out in the middle of Montana or Wyoming. Retire and live in a small house. Not only will you not have all the noise around you, you know it would take hours for most to even reach you. Tune out and enjoy life.

OP you are not wrong, but Imagine how boring a world this would be without the "this vs that" going on. It would be like the 90's all over again.
Oh wait I loved the 90's.... Damn I need to self reflect..... |

Look OP, if you get any small amount of people together, they're going to disagree. That's just people. GD isn't a small amount of people and it's an aggressively diverse background of different folk, so there will always be disagreement. If that doesn't suit you then I'd suggest taking breaks from, or avoiding GD altogether.
There's a thousand subforums here where you can just focus on the topic with autistic rage. |

There was a thread today about the TV show "Northern Exposure." Pre smartphone and when there was no internet, or it was for laggy gaming and pornography, was a more relaxed time. Maybe the world is more precarious now than in that post Soviet/pre 9/11 world; but I didn't see the news every time I picked up my phone (when I had a cel phone).
I didn't pay as much attention to the news and politics. I was just as mad when the 94 AWB was coming, but I only had a couple of buddies to complain to who were interested in guns beyond hunting. It was nice to find guys to go shoot pistols and semi auto rifles with. Before the internet I mostly just went and shot pistols and carbines on my own on Friday after work or Sat morning. But I also didn't get whipped up at Clinton, or the governor or about gun control every day. |

My life is, by design- very simple.
I have one wife, one house, one dog. Most mornings I go to work, fix broken things, and people pay me. I buy gasoline, groceries, enough spare parts and supplies to keep my own shit working, go home walk the dog, have dinner, normal domestic activities. If something's broke I fix it. sometimes I ride, shoot, or play at something..... 99.9999% of the other 8 billion people in the world don't bother me, nor give a flying fuck what I do. .............. Just take care of your family, be a good neighbor, and let the world go on it's merry fucking way. |

As disjointed and contentious as many of you in GD are, it's a lot calmer than my current real world life for the most part. I'm just waiting for this one motherfucker to be convicted and all his appeals finished so I can finally shit talk him in GD.

Solution is simple, you just log off the internet.
Blissful… silence. I just spent a week with no phone or internet access. Was great. |

But the places you're referring to are mostly only affordable to non-native residents these days. |

Tune out of social media and politics and the world is still mostly like that. In the rare instance you run into someone shouting bullshit in real life if you look at them seriously and say "shut the fuck up " they almost always do and won't bother you with their bullshit again

I often wish I could just throw the smart phone in the lake and refuse to get on the web... basically, go all Dick Proenneke. But I have 5 kids (four of them down in your neck of the woods) and 5 grandkiddos. There's no unplugging from tech for me at this point. Not because I would live without tech bullshit, but because I couldn't live with the thought that my offspring could'nt reach me immediately in the case of an emergency. I lost my ability to unplug and go all Grizzly Adams when my kids were born. They're all adults now, but that doesn't change things for me. Can't/won't cut the cable. |

I'm sick of it.
I had an out planned but got laid off due to Bidens economy and can't get a job. Will take years to recover. My only other hope is basically revelations. At some point Jesus returns, the wicked get burned, the earth cleansed and then peace will return |

do something besides read the internet and watch the news. the bullshit will carry on without you, and will continue well after all of us are gone and forgotten.

Yes, its a broken record around here sometimes, and I can usually see both sides of some of our arguments, but it gets old. I find myself digging around the other subs here lately and mostly visiting the fitness threads. Honestly feels more productive.

Unplug and get rid of your television.. every single one of them in your house and you won't see all this shit and it's so much easier.

To add to it: nothing you (generically) can do will change anything meaningful in the craziness. Don’t worry about it. Live your life, enjoy your family and whatever goes along with that. |

It seems as if all of this endless bullshit does have a specific purpose of sorts as we will see.
One of good versus evil and integrity versus none. It naturally seems as if all of these were not conjured up out of thin air but created for a reason. These will always pull at the human soul for as long as we shall live. Mankind has made many mistakes and will likely make many more. |
