Actual protest, yes. I was in Hartford protesting the bill CT gov passed after the school shooting at Sandy Hook. Riot? No, never been in one.

I protested the Iraq war when I was vacationing in Chicago. It wasn’t the shit show you see today it was normal clean no damage etc

Woodstock got a little nutty. Had a booth there & equipment(coolers, fryers, 4 wheeler, etc). Had to redirect a few people... After days of the idiots doing drugs, it wasnt hard to send them on their way.

Volunteered (OT and meals) to assist in an demonstration...it was a jurisdiction outside our county that had pissed off the lbgqtz mafia. The administration seemed so naive...the group was accompanied by another organization called ‘ACT UP’ if the name wasn’t a clue their ‘uniform’ was pink Tshirt, khaki shorts and black combat boots. The coordinator who pulled the permits was a bs artist, I think may have even conned them to use a police portable radio, you know in case there were any problems. They thought it was going to be some family friendly walking parade, with rainbow balloons, but it was a wholesale queer in your face start tearing up the Main Street business area..we ended up with busloads of arrests, they put out a regional distress that brought troopers, constables and even game wardens. We even had to take bodies to another county jail. I smelled like ben gay for weeks.

Turned on CSPAN to listen to the speeches and make commentary. So sick. Anyway. That was an experience I'd like to forget.  I was working at the DC Armory for the inauguration and we didn't get released until 1000 or so the morning of the Women's March. Had a guy selling shirts give me one for free (like I wanted one). Had to weave my way out of the parking lot dodging the protest attendees. Then I had to do that AGAIN as I had forgotten to get my CAC swiped on the way out. Yay. |

I happened upon a large protest once in Madrid. Across from the Atocha Station is a large palace looking building, its the Ministry of Ag, Fish and Foods. Apparently some babies were killed by tainted milk and various mothers groups from around Spain were protesting the deaths with large placards/banners. There were riot cops trying to stop them from entering the ministry building. No violence that I saw.

Happened to be caught in the middle of the million person Brexit protest last year in London. Totally ruined a scheduled day of sight seeing, I still went out, but it was annoying. Big Ben was also in scaffolding, double fail.
By sheer luck missed the Portland scuffle last summer by a weekend. |

Back in the 80s, I saw a race riot in progress. About a hundred angry black guys were walking down Huntington Ave yelling black power and fuck whitey. They just marched down yelling and pushing any white person they saw around. Not a lot of real punches though.
I saw it from the seventh floor of my dorm. Pretty crazy. It was over in a matter of minutes as they marched on down. |
