Yes. I've seen too much that I can't unsee.

My cars my house my family my guns my ranch everything I own I take pride in and the people that work on them if its not me will be expected to do the same.
I dont get people that take no pride in things or have a give no shit attitude about there vehicle that will transport them to and from places and be expected to not breakdown.
I take great care of all my property and expect it to work when I need it because of the care I give it and I am very rarely let down if almost never.
Living in very rural Idaho I really dont need to be broken down in BFE so I take extreme care on things.

Unless you’re driving something pretty spectacular, it’s just a car, dude.... a material possession that depreciates quick

I thought you meant like leaning up against the vehicle. I hate that too.

Yeah, don't want anyone wrenching on my car. Last time I had a vehicle brought in for alignment, they nearly stripped out a torsion bar jam bolt by raming the two jamnuts together. I had to use a breaker bar to get it undone and the threads were distorted. The other side, they left the jamnut loose, like they didn't even know there were two nuts. I checked the tie rod jam nuts, they were tighter than hell. No wonder every place struggles to get them undone.

The other place I went to (for inspection and alignment) before that told me a rear suspension bushing was bad. I questioned them about it, said it didn't look bad. I said I'd do the work myself. Only a $13 bushing (that they wanted $47 for, of course) was all that was needed, but it involved taking the whole rear suspension apart. Got it apart and the bushing was fine. The thing they were talking about that was a crack was flashing from when the bushing was made. Midas of South Burlington VT, don't go there. And they got my floormats dirty.

Only thing I don't like to do is paint. So I had my rear quarter panel done a few years back. Guy did a good job on the quarter panel, but then he did a "freebie" buffing, and put swirls all over the car (if you look close).

My dad has a lift, and I do all my own work. Not because I like to, but because I'm the only person I trust to do it right.

Came out from dinner at restaurant  one evening and this Mfer was sitting in my jeep talking to a girl in the car beside him. (My jeeps top and doors were off)

I'm not so concerned with the techs working on my truck as I am with letting a friend drive it. Maybe it's a bit of a control thing, but I have one friend I hunt with and he always wants to drive so I can relax. This guy is the epitome of a distracted driver. I can recall several times following him and actually yelling out, "OH SHIT" or "WHOA WHOA WHOA" because he looks like a drunk driver going down the road. I let him drive my truck once... out in the woods on a hunt. Never. Ever. Again.

Used to be that way with a '88GT Mustang I had about $22k in mods done to it chassis and drivetrain. Now I'm 47 and not 27 so I've grown up and quit being a dick around material possessions.

That's not to say I'd put some holes in some vandals and robbers/thieves if they tried to mess with my domain

No. I have enough money, I can pay someone to crawl around on the floor and get dirty to fix my stuff.
Frankly, you sound a little... off... OP.

No, I can pay someone to do that shit too.

Sure....I could have paid someone to put new head gaskets on my 6.0 in my F250. I could have paid someone to put a new clutch in my 03' mini Cooper s. I could have paid someone to rebuild the transmission in my 71 Camaro. I could have paid someone to rebuild the transfer case in my Ford explorer. I could have paid someone to rebuild the rear end in my 2010 Dodge ram, I could have paid someone to ...etc, etc ,etc.....

I bet I've saved myself $40,000+++ in vehicle maintenance over the years by doing work myself.  Not to mention gaining all of the knowledge and skills and experience by doing it myself.  It's an awesome feeling knowing that it cost you $1000 in parts to do a job that a shop would charge you $8k for.  Sure....I could have paid a shop...but why?

Real men turn their own wrenches.....

Perfect example.

I took my 07' BMW 335i to get the windows tinted today.   I get go and pick it up a 4 hours later. They did a pretty decent job......but they left soap residue all over the door panels, adjusted the shit out of the seat, and got sticky stuff all over the steering wheel.

Why is it so tough to return your car better or at least the same condition as you dropped it off?? Good Lord.

I do not want anyone touching my vehicles, and I do it all myself....but I am also the guy that other guys pay to handle their valuable automotive artifacts.

No one touches my Jeep except for me 99% of the time, since I’ve owned it the only times it hasn’t been worked on by me was when I had a recall done, engine replaced (long story but it was in another state so I couldn’t do it myself), and 2x at an off-road shop getting lockers and a regear done, and new remote reservoir shocks mounted which included new upper front mounts and cutting the frame and out boarding the rear shocks.

Yep but it depends on the work being done. Routine stuff I prefer to do myself because if its cheap to do, they usually put low IQ knucklheads on it.

And I dont like inconsiderate assholes tossing the football in the parking lot either.

Not totally true. I take great care of my customers cars. I want their car fixed right and given back to them in just as good condition as they gave it to me. These people come back over and over and give us money. Why mess it up?

The cold hard reality of the auto repair industry is.
" Your most prized possession is just another peice of shit once you hand over the keys."

I never said anything about not doing a great job and making customers for life.
New car PDIs or a clapped out junker are all just another unit, not a prized possession to 99.87% of the techs.

OCD are a different breed and will steal your time if you let them.
