I love LJS.
The Fish, Chicken, Shrimp, Clams and Lobster Bites (crawfish). Delicious! |

Its been a year or so since I have eaten at one. I would more often, there just isn't one really close by.
Went to one for the first time ever last Summer and the meal tasted like somebody already ate it.
Location closed it's doors a few months later. |
The local one closed a few years back. No big loss, as it wasn't very good. The LJS in London Ky is pretty good though. I eat there whenever I'm going that way.
ONLY place in my area with hushpuppies - so yes, whenever I get the craving (couple times a year probably).

Quoted: I'm still mourning the loss of Arthur Treacher's. There (somehow) actually one left, in NE Ohio. Long may it reign. View Quote Me too. I liked LJS, but most of them have closed around here in NoVa. The closest ones left are shown in Warrenton and Dale City. I may have to make a special trip soon before they close too. ETA - Fish & chicken platter, add clams, shrimp, and a large soda. |

Might take the dad there for nostalgia. Grew up in Barstow and sadly it was the best fish shop we had. Now on Vegas I got plenty of top tier spots but he's getting old and maybe it'll make him happy remembering the days he was younger raising my ass

I went to ours about a year ago cause my dad loves the place. Honestly, it didn't smell safe to eat. He's a diehard LJS fan and he wouldn't eat it. He did say the past few times he's had it, it wasn't good.

Quoted: Love me some LJS fish with the malt vinegar View Quote A couple times a year, just because. Not great, not bad. Grew up in the UK with proper fish n chips. Malt vinegar is a must. While I miss the fish, I really miss the chips cooked in the same oil so they have that slight breaded cod flavor to them. Greasy goodness. Needed that vinegar to cut through it. Oh, and the slight hint of newspaper print ink for the final authenticity… |
My brother and his friends used to call it Long John Smoothies.
We still call it that. Haven't seen one in years. |
Quoted: I ate there once when I lived in the Pacific Beach neighborhood of San Diego in the 1970s. I saw no reason to go back. It was a lot more fun buying McDonald's burgers when they were on sale and handing them out to meat-starved Hare Krishna kids. View Quote Dude, you ate at an LJS in PAC Beach???? Good god man, there must have been 20 better choices for fish! BYW, my BIL is from PAC Beach. I love the strand. |
some time in the 80's when I realized i felt like crap an hour after eating LJS..
Back in the late 90's I would drive 80mi roundtrip for the Cajun Shrimp Wraps at LJS!
Badass |
Went alot in the 90s. We have one local. Its way overpriced and mostly batter. Last time I was there we were the only customer and when the drive thru window opened it smelled like weed.

I have not seen a long John Silvers in almost 50 yrs. I had no idea they were even in business any more.

gimme a 2 fish + 3 chicken combo with no slaw, double fries, with ketchup and tartar sauce...and extra crispies in the box plz

Quoted: Love their chicken tenders. I’ll go around once a year, maybe. View Quote Chicken planks mf! I worked there in high school 4 days a week 11 to 7 as part of school. Gotta be fresh, or it is shit. The fries taste funny because of the oil. A designated fry vat was not an option. Friday was a bitch. Line out the door all day ding to dong. Cutting the fish was an art. 2.25 oz per was the goal. I was the best fish cutter in the house. Guess Who had to cut most of the damn fish. |
The local LJS was torn down and replaced with a brand spanking new DQ Grill and Chill. Big win for us - but only relatively speaking.

Quoted: For how many years now have they been offering breading with no noticeable fish? Since Cod went extinct. Must be a money laundering place now. View Quote Attached File |

Are there a couple weeks ago. Don’t go often but I like it. I’v e never had any issues with them.

Quoted: They were great fish and chips shops. Haven't seen one in decades. I bet there are very few here that know who he was without looking him up. Old bag of nails has some of the best fish and chips I've ever had. Also the best fried pickles. I know there a few in Ohio. Not sure if in other states. |

Quoted: The one in town has been closed for a while. Looks like the closest still open in NC is in Winston-Salem? I always liked their food. It was a treat back in the 80s. View Quote I think I’ve seen one around here in the WS area, but last ate at one back in the 90s in Concord. Couple pubs in Winston have good fish and chips so no need to get fast food variety. |

Love me some fish and chicken planks with extra hush puppies, fish and more I think they call it. I love to mix those fish crunchers in with my greasy frys.
every time I eat there lunch time, I need an oil change afterwards, greasy ass fish.
The one near us is pretty good; I stop there once or twice a year.
We don't have LJS, we have Cap'n D's. I used to eat there before I learned their fish came from Vietnam. |

About once a decade, 2009 was the last time I can put a definite date to.
I’m in no hurry to change that |

View Quote Old bag of nails is my GOTO fish fry place. They put one in Toledo and I stop in whenever I am there. Best fish fry I've ever had. And it's the same every time I get it. It's so good that my dad, who doesn't even likes fish, will order it when I take him there. |

Family pack of chicken planks is perfect for a road trip.
I think the one we had is now a axe throwing bar |

Quoted: One of the last freestanding ones I know of is in Round Rock, TX. Back in the 1980's, LJS was great! I even know of hard core foodies who lament the passing of that level of LJS. IDK what changed, but nothing there tastes the same any more. It's trash. View Quote |
